In this 150th anniversary year of the Civil War, I just realized something.
The South won.
The culture of ignorance and ignorance-worship, racism, anti-egalitarianism, prejudice, narrow and twisted fundamentalism, repression and economic exploitation of the common people…(continue with your own list)…is now the dominant culture in America.
I predict that soon this new Confederacy, too, will be gone with the wind.
What? The primitive's predicting the demise of Skins's island, gone under like Atlantis or something?

1. Agreed. They even have our president promoting States Rights.
That's pretty sobering.

2. he only supports states rights for the rightwing issues. rightwing doesnt like mmj, only the left/center does. so he must fight against it even harder than the last guy.
Okay, another pretentious primitive, just like the pretentious "PDX" primitive.
What is "mmj"?

3. Honestly? The North wasn't much better
economic exploitation of low-paid immigrant factory workers rather than chattel slavery, but exploitation nonetheless; narrow fundamentalism? Not something that really existed in the mid-19th century, that came along later (and had its origins from theological developments in Britain and the American North including what was known as the "Princeton School"). Racism? The South hardly had a monopoly on that either; Lincoln and others thought that black people were in no way equal to whites and Lincoln himself wanted to resettle freed slaves in Africa.
I think you're crediting America with virtues it never actually possessed. (Look to the experience of Irish and other immigrants in the industrial North in the 19th century, and of Catholics and Jews in a largely Protestant country; tell me there isn't prejudice and anti-egalitarianism and racism there just as much as anywhere else.)

4. Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Rick Santorum, Rick Scott .... aren't from the South. Rick Scott came to Florida as a carpetbagger dirt.
