I listen to all political views from every spectrum. Being a conservative myself, I can agree with what some of the pundits believe, but Republicans are fake conservatives. They hide under a conservative banner, but never stand up to the true core qualities. They only go after spending that does not affect them. Any project these people have, they want to have full commitment. Tax breaks are necessary, but its only those sectors that lobbied for it which get it. What a true conservative should do is push for tax simplification or a flat tax. Big companies spend millions in their legal departments just to avoid paying them and we as Americans pay for it through the tax breaks. When it comes to illegal aliens its not cut and dry. They come over the borders to get work because their countries have no labor laws in place to ensure a fair wage. The Republicans pushed for free trade when they should have pushed fair trade. This would have slowed down the flow. This topic is only an election talking point because we had an amnesty during the Regan administration with the Republicans stating that they would tighten the borders once those in the country were nationalized. This never happened. Our country should go after those business owners who employ illegals through heavy fines and jail time. When those illegals realize there is no work, they will volunteer to go back to their country of origin, but it takes real conservatives to stand their ground and not caucus with a party that would sell out their own mothers for another term in office. Additionally, true conservatives should push term limits for all elected offices. We cannot afford to allow these politicians to be royalty, nor accrued a pension which tax payers have to cover. The house reps spend more time campaigning that figuring out how to solve this countries problems. Last, stop with the social conservatism in the government. We spend way too much time legislating morality than trying to fix this countries financial issues. Our founders were God fearing, but wanted government to be separate. We have to elect independent conservatives to focus on the necessary issues. If not, the demise of this wonderful nation is going to happen. Conservatives wake up!!!!!
Anyone who has to point out they're a "true" conservative (in the 2nd sentence no less) probably isn't. That said, what does listening to all political views have to do with anything? What pundits? What beliefs? BTW, it's the job of the writer to make his/her point clear. It's NOT evident you're talking about politicians. The prior sentence mentions pundits who, to the best of my knowledge, analyze politics and politicians.
What spending do they go after? (Frankly I don't see them cutting much regardless of who it does or doesn't benefit).
I'm a "true" conservative and I don't think tax breaks for EVERYONE, including corporations are a bad thing. The more disposable income a company has the more workers they can hire. How is that a bad thing? I do, however, think I've read this sentiment on DU several times. The spend millions on lawyers so they won't have to pay millions in taxes? Well, I certainly hope those millions they're paying to the lawyers is less than what they'd pay to the government. Besides, businesses exist to make profits and corporations especially are beholden to stockholders. The more they save, the more that goes into my mutual fund.
With illegal aliens it IS cut and dry. What part of illegal is confusing? I don't give a flying rip what their labor laws are. Why don't they stay in their countries and work to make their labor laws better? What's a fair wage? Who judges? In a country with a lower cost of living, wages can be significantly lower and still be considered a living wage. These people should care enough about their own country and lives of their families to make their lives better.
What do you mean when you say fair trade? Is it the kind of fair trade they advertise on the packages of the coffee beans I buy? So far you sound like a liberal trying to wrap yourself in a conservative phrase or two.
Also, a true conservative SHOULD care about the morality of the country. As John Adam's said, "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." What morality has been legislated that you object to? Last time I checked the federal government pretty much accepts that it's okay to suck a baby halfway out of it's mother's womb and stab it in the head. DOMA? Even democrats supported that.
Our founders wanted what to be separate? If you're talking about the establishment clause, that has been the most distorted amendment in the constitution. NO WHERE does it say religion should be separate, just that the we should not have a national religion. And while religion gives a foundation for morality one does not need to be religious to be moral. There are several people on this board who are atheists who have a higher moral code than some of the Christians I know.
Oh, and another thing. Every true conservative should know the government can't "fix" the economy. The best thing they can do to help the economy is get out of the way and let the free market work. Every time the government sticks it's hand in the private sector things go to hell. That's why it's gotten worse instead of better.
And who the hell are you to come here and lecture us after only 6 posts? I'd bet just about anything you're either very young or trying to pose as a conservative because many of these things we read on DU every single day. The thing is, if you are liberal, it's no big deal. Just fess up and try to defend your positions. Being an arrogant jerk isn't going to get you very far.
