When I got home, my wife took it well, which surprised me. She didn't race to that "most illogical conclusion." She even said that we should just pull up stakes and head to Texas to start anew.
That one threw me. My AA sponsor said that, if it comes to that, I should take the unemployment for a while and work on my sobriety. He's probably right, as my one sponsee is currently moving his family back to South Korea, and I would seem to have some time on my hands, coming up. He also suggested tending my two plots over in my church garden, if this isn't resolved by the 22nd of July. My co-workers are all of the mind that it will be, by then.
What galls me (and them) is that my title was put on the endangered list by the actions of
one individual who is in our Central Region office. He's an arrogant prick, who makes a habit of filing work grievances just to piss people off, it would seem. So, his position in that office was eliminated. But, since he's got over 30 years service, he bumped someone. The other two that had their positions eliminated are in one of our Southern Region offices. One bumped a co-worker in that office, and the other bumped me. They also filed out-of-title work grievances, for stuff that I (and my co-worker up here who is getting bumped) do rather routinely. The guy who has the 30+ years even went on a local newspaper's blog and bragged about his bumping of someone. The management in my office is
going to deal with that, and his general anal-retentive personality, in a pretty aggressive way, by overloading the "new" people with work back-and-forth across the state. One week, overnight in Batavia. The next week, overnight(s) in Plattsburgh. The next week, overnights at Hauppague on Long Island. The next week, overnight in Jamestown. The next week, overnights in Watertown. And so on. Management is pretty adamant in wanting us who are getting bumped to stay. My co-worker does work on the side as a stone mason, so he won't be hurting for money at all. He's single, and his truck is paid for.
I'll be alright. Thank you all for responding . . .

to the women, and

to the guys.
