I have unidentified sludge on my Doc Martens from my last trip to NOLA that won't be removed no matter what.  That was 98.  I have since been to the MGC twice after Katrina for cleaning up and finding stuff and people.  That crap came off, and then I was in the storm zone, where we found dead people.  NOLA should be proud of their dirt.

I've been to New Orleans, but it was years ago, before Katrina. It didn't impress me as particularly dirty. Atlanta did---at least in the area near the Underground. I was there with a large group of people, but still felt uneasy. I used to live in San Antonio, which had good air quality and was usually neat and clean. But my impression on just entering Houston via the expressways was that of a dirty city. It seemed to have a green grunge on everything. The humidity was overbearing, as was the heat.

I guess bad impressions are lasting. I never wanted to live there, although probably didn't give it a fair chance.

I've been to Atlanta a few times... I must have not noticed the really bad parts of town.  I'm sure they're there, but DC was far more grubby and filthy than anything I saw in Atlanta.

I will admit I didn't get off the interstate on my way to Duluth.

I don't know about Memphis, but yeah, those are among the most liberal cities in America.

I wonder why San Francisco isn't on the list, though.  Maybe the gheys are all clean-freaks.
