Listening to those two songs again after so many years, I'm struck by the relative thickness of the backup orchestra. Lots of strings and relatively subdued brass. Riding above all that is Glen's unpretentious tenor singing Jim Webb songs as only he can do. These songs represent a time when crossover from country into pop was done artfully and tastefully. And you could actually hear and understand the lyrics.
Glen was/is a helluva guitar picker too. I remember seeing him play on his TV show and being blown away by his technique and artistry. And he was a good looking guy too, and that certainly helped him with his foray into acting.
All that said, he did look pathetic a few years back when he was arrested for DWI. But I pray that his final years will not be the struggle it is for many Alzheimer's patients and their families.
