Are any ads turned away?

I ask this as I love to tool around the site over the lunch hour at work. My boss will occasionally stop over and ask questions. He does not care, as it is over lunch. However, he did mention today the big freaking dildo being advertised on the page when he stopped over. And, despite the ad, it is not very "discrete."

Hey, I thought they had to accept all ads? if not then why don't they turn away all the Republican ads I see? obviously I enjoy seeing those ads and find it amusing, but I know people at DU have complained about them in the past and they were told there's nothing that could be done about the ads, so which is it?

They seem to have different ad placements managed by different companies - They are stuck with the Google Ads, but I'm pretty sure the 'Advertise Liberally' Block ads can be messed with.

The admins keep giving vague answers to this complaint.  "You'll have to seek a third-party solution, I'm afraid."  Whatever the hell that means.  I think it means they're trolling for donations, so as to make the ads disappear.  I know they have a shop to run, but isn't this the sort of sleazy business practice they decry?  Reminds me of $kinner, when announcing a DUer's death, remarking that donations could be made to supplement the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, or DemocratsBuriedAlive.
