On fundamentalism...

Well going down to a funeral allowed us to see something I knew it was there, but oh boy... it is getting bad. When we all speak of Fundies well... we all know who or what comes to mind... (Yes Fundie Christians),

Suffice it to say it is not just US Fundie Christians. We just have Fundies, and fundamentalism rising. I have a theory... we have so much information, and so many changes driven by technology that the modern world is... well.. magical and hard to understand. Insert religion here, with insert rituals here... and life becomes far more familiar and easy to handle. This is the function of a Shiva by the way... but the level of Fundamentalism I saw, and it wasn't Christian, with the new number of... rituals... scared this secular and rational mind to no end.

We need to find a way to make the modern world a lot less threatening... or people (insert religion here) will continue to retreat into a form of fundamentalism that is just dangerous. As Sagan said before his death, what we face is the rise of a new dark ages... and that scares the living daylights out of me. Yes I am as secular as they come... by the way. to use a world they use with distain I am a secular humanist...

3. You want my opinion - I think atheists need to be even more aggressive in coming out.

When most people don't think they even know one atheist, which seems to be the case in a lot of the country still, atheists are vulnerable to demonization, and the fundies WILL demonize when they have the opportunity. See the case of Damon Fowler as an example.

So we need more closet atheists to come out of the closet, and tell people about their lack of faith, and why they don't believe in deities. I'll give you my own example. There was one thing that made me come out as a 100% USDA Grade A Atheist, after previously being a borderline Christian/agnostic, and that was Dan Barker, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation. For some reason, I had fallen for the demonization myself, having gotten the mass-media treatment of Madalyn Murray O'Hair, who was depicted as a raging psycho asshole.

Dan Barker showed me that you can be kind, decent and atheist at the same time, and that's what finally got me to drop my last vestiges of religion, conclude that God and the Bible are a bunch of fairy tales, and oh look, we're all still here!

Now granted, the stereotype of the angry atheist does have a kernel of truth - I am an angry atheist, and that's because atheists have been at the receiving end of uncountable abuses at the hands of the highly religious. All for what? A deity that we consider to be completely fictional? For a twisted Bronze-age belief system that has people's moral compasses turned inside out, causing them to commit horrific acts while believing themselves to be pure and moral.

You want my prescription? Atheists need to be humanized. People need to know that friends, family, coworkers, lots of people don't believe, and maybe they'll start questioning themselves, or at least give us atheists some breathing room without trying to shove their deities down our throats.

You effin atheists have been coming out for years and using the courts to take away the rights of others to practice their faith.  You use the tyranny of the minority which is way worse than the tyranny of the majority.

Remember, to the primitives, someone whose only connection with religion is that he says grace over the Thanksgiving turkey, and goes to church on Christmas and Easter, is a "fundie."

Milo Yiannopoulos "It has been obvious since 2016 that Trump carries an anointing of some kind. My American friends, are you so blind to reason, and deaf to Heaven? Can he do all this, and cannot get a crown? This man is your King. Coronate him, and watch every devil shriek, and every demon howl."

It's great that know-it-all nadinbrzhzhzhzhski, a Jew, parades anti-Semitism to curry favor among the DUmpmonkeys.
It makes her even more repulsive than her arrogant condescension, but it will buy her some slack from the DUmbasses.

4. That is part of the problem

but seriously the other is that life is extremely complex and non-predictable... and all your modern world has a lot of magic. It is different than oh medieval magic, but magic nonetheless. So having idiocy ... or rituals, give order to life...

That is why we are seeing a return to the faith... insert faith here. Of course, some of the conversations... I just left and went upstairs and spent time with hubby.
Good Lord, she is obnoxious.

Thanks mods!  Didn't realize I had duped.

Nadine doesn't look up from her computer much does she.  This world is awash with every vile thing, all delivered to us any time and almost any where.  That some people choose to turn to a life away from that makes Nadine call them a fundie Christian of some sort.

Nadine, I know you read here.  Why don't you ever mention Islamic fundementalist who view secular humanists somewhere below christians, and remember, the Islamists kill christians.  I wonder what special treatment they would have for you?

She's worse. A heathen, secular humanist Jew. The religion of peace never even considered how to treat a creature like that.
