Gallup: 22% Are Hesitant to Support a Mormon in 2012

http://www.gallup.com/poll/148100/Hesitant-Support-Morm...

In U.S., 22% Are Hesitant to Support a Mormon in 2012
Anti-Mormon sentiment hasn't eased since it was first measured in 1967
by Lydia Saad

PRINCETON, NJ -- Though the vast majority of Americans say they would vote for their party's nominee for president in 2012 if that person happens to be a Mormon, 22% say they would not, a figure largely unchanged since 1967.

The new Gallup poll, conducted June 9-12, finds nearly 20% of Republicans and independents saying they would not support a Mormon for president. That is slightly lower than the 27% of Democrats saying the same.

The largest differences in opposition to voting for a Mormon for president are by educational level, with adults who have not attended college more resistant than those with some college experience or college graduates. This educational pattern is seen in attitudes about voting for someone from almost all of the specific religious or demographic groups tested in the poll.

There are no significant differences on this question by gender, age, region of the country, or religious preference. Additionally, the views of Americans who attend their place of worship weekly are no different from those of less frequent attenders or non-attenders...

2. Don't know why. I, for one, would have no problem supporting

a strong progressive/liberal Mormon.

Like Harry Reid?

I wonder how many of these idiots know that Dingy Harry is Mormon.

8. IMHO the practice of Mormonism is incompatible with progressivism.

It is a VERY conservative religion, with no room for those who don't toe the line. If you are in good standing it is because you obey your bishop without question. If you do not obey, you are OUT.

Frankly, I happen to think the practice of Mormonism is fundamentally incompatible with our democracy, and it requires that people put obedience to church hierarchy above all else, including the Constitution.

Mormon?  Who could they be talking about?  The rich guy that comes off like a cheap used car salesman or the Bureaucrat with McCain's stances and none of his resume or charisma?

I saw something interesting in this study - that the Primitives have yet to address...

"The largest differences in opposition to voting for a Mormon for president are by educational level, with adults who have not attended college more resistant than those with some college experience or college graduates."

20% of Republicans and independents saying they would not support a Mormon for president.
27% of Democrats saying the same.

Wait, what's this ? This poll suggests that Dems are less educated than Reps and Inds.. And at a percentage outside of statistical noise. oopsie.

The same poll, just before Kennedy's election in 1960, had a higher number who could not support a Catholic.
Of course, he was elected by Mayor Daley's voters in Cook County, many of whom died during the 1918 flu epidemic.

Sounds like 22% of America are democrats and bigots but I repeat myself.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I don't distrust Huntsman and Romney because they're Mormons.

I distrust them because they're both as phony as a three-dollar bill.

Both mormons and moslems have beliefs which simply disqualify the holder from any position of authority in civil society.

I don't have any particular problem with Mormons, though I personally regard the tenets of their faith to be about as plausible as Scientology's.  What I have a problem with is RINOs.

I have no problems with mormons either - yeah, their religion is a bit on the eccentric side, but as a whole they are good people.

The only problem I have with Mormons is that they have no vices.  Their weddings are super boring.  Just send a gift and call it good.

Yeppers, both mormons and muzzies have 'strong family values'. How else would any man put up with more than one wife at a time, eh.

That said- any loon who thinks he has the horse power to deserve a shot at g_ding his own Universe (or is it just a planet in this universe-BOM is kinda vague on that) or thinks himself such a badass for the 'faith' in this life that he deserves 72 honeys in the next is NOT the sort of person who should be placed in charge of anything, certainly not a Nation.

You realize that the Mormon church has disavowed polygamy for over a century, do you not?  That those who practice it have been excommunicated from the church?

Do they have beliefs that I think are a little off?  Yup--but as has been pointed out, Mormons are some of the most grounded, simple, honest-to-goodness people you'll ever want to meet.  Would that we take some of that and apply it to our own lives.

Disavowed???????? Sure thing, say whatever to get Statehood........BUT DISCONTINUED???? Nah, polygamy among the LDS (not just FLDS) goes on to this day. Fairly common and open if you know where to look and who to ask. All done while keeping nominally in step with the letter of the law, but polygamy in practice. Another trait mormons share with muzzies is a willingness to deceive outsiders without the hint of a blush.

Again, show me where a practicing member of the LDS church in good standing is also a polygamist.

Just one example will suffice.

I spent a good portion of my childhood and teen years in heavily Mormon communities such as Price, UT; Montpelier, ID; Soda Springs, ID; Green River, WY; and Idaho Falls, ID.  Ask a practicing Mormon what they think of polygamy.

THAT'S how I know you're full of shit, scooter.

I think that was my downfall, probuably why my wife invited me on there, she figured that i would be better at showing common sense than her and i would get a kick out of the discussions.  I guess i didnt give enough bouncys as you call them or enough donations  lol     funnily i remember them celebrating my demise and then my wifes subsequent changing from a solid Dem vote to now voting Republican, i think we can call that a KO rather than an ippon or whatever such nonsense the Dump used.
