Another Brick in the Wall

Hey, folks!

Name's Tim.  I've got a BA in philosophy, I live in North Carolina, and that's about all I'm willing to disclose about my personal life.

As far as political views are concerned, I can be described as somewhere between traditionally conservative (in the vein of Calvin Coolidge) and libertarian.  I am not particularly fond of the Republican or Democratic parties--to me, both quite clearly represent collectivism, fiscal irresponsibility, and the shortsightedness typical of Washington.  Neoconservatism has taken too many cues from progressivism for me to take it seriously, and watching so-called "Conservative" apologists rant about any number of issues frustrates me even more than watching some liberals advocate their views, because I don't like it when Conservatism is distorted.

That said, I will vote Republican sooner than Democrat, simply because the Republicans are ever so slightly less misguided.  Supreme court appointments, at least, are much better on the Republican side.

I am a Christian, and a morally conservative one, but I am not a fundamentalist.  God is supreme enough that I naturally distrust any human being who claims to fully understand Him or His word.

As for other interests: I love video games, mostly Nintendo and Sega ones.  I'm not too fond of recent trends in gaming like rampant "realism," and I generally hate first-person shooters.  I also love music, mostly prog rock, classic rock, jazz (dixieland, cool jazz, big band), classical (baroque and romantic periods), and metal (heavy, power, doom, thrash, prog).  Music is one of my favorite subjects even if I don't know much about the technical aspects.  I also like film and literature, but that goes without saying, doesn't it?

That's about it.  Glad to be here! Apparently I've had an account for awhile but never actually started posting.  Go figure.

I think I just searched "conservative forum" (without the quotes) on google and ran into it.  At least, that's how I came across it this time.  As to how I came across it when I registered six months ago, beats me, but it was probably a similar story.  :wink:

I wouldn't have suspected that the question was malicious, but thanks for putting that idea into my head. :p

Actually, franksolich has manners that would shame Amy Vanderbilt or Emily Post, but one doesn't see it right away.

You sound a LOT like me. As for Paul, I agree with about 75% of what he says. It's the other 25% that scares the living shit out of me and I also think he's somewhat of a fraud. Sorry. He admitted it himself in the debates, elected to office 14 times? What's he done? Also, he bitches about pork, but brings the pork home. Would I vote for him? Only if he gets the nomination because I feel this nation cannot afford another 4 years of the clown inhabiting 1600. ...but he's not my 1st choice. Not my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or 10th either.

There are varying opinions and stances on this site. From what I can gather, the one thing that really binds us all is fiscal policy. I'm to the left of many on certain social stances. I doubt there's anyone to the right of me on fiscal stances.
