Rep. Anthony Weiner is resigning : Report
« on: June 16, 2011, 08:58:59 AM »

Rep. Anthony D. Weiner has told friends he plans to resign his seat after coming under growing pressure from his Democratic colleagues to leave the House in the wake of revelations of his lewd online exchanges with women, the New York Times is reporting.

The news comes as Democratic leaders prepared to hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss whether to strip the 46-year-old New York congressman of his committee assignments, a blow that would severely damage his effectiveness, the paper says.

Weiner, a Democrat, came to the conclusion that he could no longer serve after having long discussions with his wife,  Huma Abedin, when she returned home on Tuesday after traveling abroad with her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Times reports.

Weiner to pull out

I wanted to make that my headline, but figured I'd better stick with the "proper" format.

Has he ever had a job in the private sector? If not, he will probably join the ranks of the unemployed that he helped create.

Shockingly enough, no.

For what it's worth, from Wikipedia:

Quote
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1985, Weiner worked on the staff of then-Congressman and current Senator Chuck Schumer (1985–91). First working in Schumer's office in Washington, D.C., he was sent to the District Office in Brooklyn in 1988 when Schumer encouraged him to become involved in local politics.

New York City Councilman: 1992–98

U.S. Congressman: 1999–present

Fox News is posting that he will give a 2pm news conference to resign.

I found the information that Weiner is not an attorney very surprising.

That means he doesn't have a law practice to fall back on.

That's a good thing -- for the legal profession. Those guys and gals struggle enough as it is, so to have a confirmed liar in their midst just drags 'em down further.

Leno was right.  Weiner's quitting is the first job Obama has created in two years.

This of course is very old news, from about two weeks ago, but one of the newspapers in New York City at the time mentioned Weiner couldn't afford to leave Congress, because it's his only income; he has nothing else on which to fall.  This may have been a factor in his delay in resigning.

Under the circumstances, wonder if he'll collect "retirement" bennies ?  He'll probably be hired by the Obama WTF2012 campaign as he's always been a good little "rat terrier" for the Dems.  Or get an MSNBC or CurrentTV gig  :p

I'm sure that a New Yorker with no job and no income is a berry, berry bad thing, and to have to give up a pretty lucrative base salary of $174K (not including bennies, of course) adds insult to injury.

Then again, his wife is knocking down a decent salary (her GS-15 level job pays somewhere between $124K - $155K) and as we all know, you can't really live on that kind of money in NYC, even in Queens where they have an apartment or condo.

The link also talks toward how he can't collect on any kind of pension until he turns age 55, and he takes a huge hit for not serving a full 20 years. He's served only 12 thus far, and it looks like that's where it's going to stop.

With his decision to resign, Rep hot dog's meteoric rise from congressional aide
to Democratic Party attack-dog-in-chief comes screeching to a halt.
But while his future is as blurry as some of those X-rated Internet photos of him,
the seven-term congressman at least has a taxpayer-backed pension to look forward to.
At a minimum, the New York Democrat is eligible for a basic pension worth about $37,000 a year once he hits the retirement age --
not counting other odd-and-ends benefits.

Weiner decided to finally release the “big load” he was carrying in order for the saga to end.

Hillary to Weiner’s wife Huma:  “Hang in there hon, I’ve been there.”

Weiner reportedly to star in remake of “Welcome Back Kotter” as Arnold Horschak

Weiner was seen as a jerk so off he went.

Weiner finally decided not to stick it out in Congress.

Weiner finally went limp in his fight to stay in Congress.

Weiner finally lost his cockiness

Weiner pulled out of the struggle prematurely

My guess is queen Pelosi called him on the carpet and told him he was going to resign.
That way we can get him and his wiener off the front page and commence to lying about the Republicans plans to use old people to make dog food.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Politico talks about his final undoing and why NO ONE stood up for him in congress...
Quote
and he had alienated many of his colleagues over the years with abrasive conduct, including a propensity to treat them and his own staff poorly.
Weiner was an a$$hole. He was a bully. Like all progressives, there was something mentally wrong with him.

12 years in congress and not one friend who will stand up for you?

just wish I could post this in DUmmyland.
