Authorization for TxDOT and regional authorities to enter into agreements for lease deals would end on Aug. 31, 2015.

Opponents say the state should not give up control of its roads to corporate interests, which often are foreign-owned.

The corporate toll roads envisioned by TxDOT, however, bear almost no resemblance to traditional,
taxpayer-controlled turnpikes. In many cases, these projects involve
transferring control of seized Texas land and existing public right-of-ways to
private corporations via so-called "public-private partnerships" (PPPs) and
"Comprehensive Development Agreements" (CDAs).[8] The corporate toll road
network envisioned by TxDOT:
1. Involves forcible seizure of Texans' land using eminent domain authority in the name of a "public use" and handing control over to private, for-profit
corporations for private gain[9] in the form of leases of up to 52
years.[10]

2. Relies on so-called "innovative financing schemes" underwritten in large part by taxpayers[11] and in at least some cases on
multi-leveraged debt mechanisms.[12]

3. Will place control of many of Texas' roads in the hands of Cintra, S.A.,[13] a private multinational corporation headquartered in
Spain.[14]

4. Envisions toll rates of up to 75 cents per mile.[15]

5. Restricts the expansion of free roadways which might provide competing alternatives to the corporate toll roads.[16]
Given these troubling aspects of the proposed corporate toll road network, we join with tens of thousands of other Texans who have already expressed their
opposition to this scheme under its earlier moniker, the "Trans-Texas Corridor."
Contrary to TxDOT's taxpayer-funded campaign, we are convinced that there are
many possible alternative approaches to addressing the predicted funding
shortfall.

The Trans Texas corridor plan was scrapped so what does that have to do with anything. I damn sure wish a private concern would take over the lousy roads in Louisiana. Roads in TX are damn good.
A Kiplinger article had 5 TX cities out of 10 as the best in the nation for business climate.

I don't know that much about Perry. His support of Gore if true is troubling. He has to deal with a bunch of liberals in Austin but I don't see how he is so bad because getting elected thrice is no small accomplishment.

On Facebook, there's this thing about wanting Rick Perry for President. He is a RINO in every way. He only recently started even addressing the illegal alien situation, which is almost as bad as Arizona's illegal problems. Texas has become a Tax & Spend state. Property taxes are through the roof. Home values keep getting assessed at exorbitant values. Toll roads all over the place. Sales tax is 8.25% or better in many places. The people running Texas are draining it dry. Perry also authorized the use of the "Rainy Day fund" for superfluous reasons. I'm telling y;all, Rick Perry is NOT a viable candidate for the GOP!!  Heed my warning folks!!

Since we're already working ourselves over for the "lesser of two evils" vote, suppose for a second the two remaining candydates in the running on the (R) side are Romney and Perry.  Who gets your vote then?
