The situation with Romney isn't about wether he'd be any good or not. It's basically about avgs, historical & statistically. McCain is already battling the odds no use in adding to those odds.

The deal about Global warming is although many think it is bunk many more have bought into and changes they are a happening. Sometimes playing nice with folks give you more input on a situation thereby Minimizing the neg effects of any action taken. It ain't purty but it's reality.

I am not sure what you are saying here. Newt was playing nice with libs/Pelosi...because...???

Global warming real or imagined changes have been made & more to come.  You can do more in the way of damage control on the inside than standing outside letting them have their way.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Newt was just being diplomatic. He acknowledges global warming and climate change which includes global cooling. As long as money is not thrown at it, no harm, no foul.

I think Newt would be a great choice for VP. He would certainly bring conservatives into the fold. McCain needs to win the Presidency because the Repubs are going to take a pounding in the Senate races.

I didn't vote in the poll but what I think for GOP VP

Charlie Crist, has obvious potential, plus he's from Florida
Possibly Rick Perry (Gov of Texas), but I doubt that.
Romney

I think he's going to go with Crist. I think McCain's definitely going to go with a Governor.

The base would flip out if he picked crist.

But it wouldn't surprise me if he did it anyway.

Every time I see Charlie Crist on TV I think his last name is CRISP because he looks like he has been tanning as much as George Hamilton.

I hope he does not pick the newly elected governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal. We finally have a good, honest, articulate politician to run this state, and the thought of Senator Mary Landrieu brother, Mitch L., taking over blows me away.

Phil Graham, ex-senator from TX, is responsible for digging McCain's campaign up from the grave. So it would not surprise me if he choose his good friend as VP.

I think you can forget about Rick Perry getting the nod for a couple reasons.  McCain doesn't have to worry about Texas ,it's already in the bag. Also Rick isn't all that popular a Governor. He is not disliked by many he just hasn't performed to expectations.

Now that goofy looking dude would be a good choice but once again McCain doesn't have to worry about carrying Texas.

John Kasich would be a good choice. Fiscal Conservative and he is also from a battleground state,Ohio.

That and he works for Fox News  :naughty:

I dunno.

Anybody's okay with me.

I've been watching John McCain, and am wondering about something.

He's taking an awful long time to indicate a preference for running-mate.

Of course, there's no rush on it, but it sort of seems to defy conventional political wisdom.

I could be way off base here, but I wonder.

John McCain is of course fully and sorely aware he doesn't enjoy the affections of a great many Republicans (he has mine, but I am affectionate towards any Republican), and being a professional in politics, and wanting to win the election, John McCain is fully and sorely aware he has to do something to make those Republicans more affectionate towards him.

So I'm wondering if John McCain's waiting for those Republicans who don't like him, to state THEIR preferences (I like Duncan Hunter myself), after which things go from there.

John McCain is no primitive; he wants BadCat's vote, and if it means BadCat has a big say (notice the word "big") in his running-mate, well, John McCain's going to listen to BadCat.

I could be way off base, but it seems odd, and this seems at least a possible explanation.

No.   Announcing his VP now makes no sense, and totally wastes front page media time.   He waits until the democrats have a nomination, and a VP -- then he makes announcement, or the Democrats will be front page through November.

Nothing goofy looking about Graham but your point is well taken. McCain will probably pick someone that is much younger, fresh and clean too. :-)

jindal is going to be a star in the party, but it's too soon.  let him be a successful governor.  we need heavyweights on the ticket, so we can more effectively point out obama's experience problem at the top of their ticket.

of the possibilities, I think I am coming down for mark sanford.

Since I do not trust any politician now days, and I have no way to know that that is really what he is/was doing, I am still very leery of what he did, as to my knowledge, he never hinted that was what he was doing.
I really didn't care for it when he was working with Hillary on health care either.

I always liked Newt...now I don't know.

Honestly, I'm too young to know about Phil Gramm.  I don't remember much about him, and haven't taken any time to learn either.  By the time I started paying attention to politics Cornyn was senator (along with Hutchinson).

You know I can see Kay Bailey Hutchinson possibly being added to the ticket.  She's already said she's not running for re-election to the senate next go around.  There's been hints that she'll run for governor.

that's a thought. but two senators on the same ticket is widely viewed as a problem.  and I'm not sure that would satisfy the base, although her lifetime ACU rating is over 90 . . .

Oh, you're right about the two senator thingy, I didn't think of that.  I think he'll go with Crist.  Crist has been a very visible supporter already and it would solidify Florida for the republicans.

McCain won't pick Kay Bailey Hutchinson . He already has problems with restoring his conservative credentials without adding a moderate to liberal republican to the ticket. Hell even her main Financial supporters of hers told her they would withdraw their support if she ran for gov the last go round.

Jindal. The more I hear him, the more I like him. Aside from his age, I haven't heard a single negative on him.

Well I just read that McCain is gonna announce his VEEP pick this week to help counter the media wave that Obama is getting for his trip.

$10 it's Ron Paul.

I think Crist is probably very high on the list, he is very popular in Florida! I think though with the economy in the tank he will pick Romney!

He is going to make a major announcement in Louisiana Thursday. Don't know whether it will be a VP pick or not. Hoping it is not Jindal; we need him as Gov. for 8 years in this state to clean up the mess.
