Man struck and killed by van, which drives off with victim on roof

WICHITA - After striking and fatally injuring a lawn maintenance man this morning, the driver of a van continued driving with the victim atop the roof until reaching a house about three miles away, authorities said.
The 32-year-old victim was working near the street when he was struck by the van in the 100 block of Greenwich Road around 7:15 a.m., Wichita police Capt. Hassan Ramzah said. That location is near the entrance to a Hawker Beechcraft plant entrance.
The victim ended up on the roof, and the driver — a man in his mid-60s — left with the person on the vehicle, Ramzah said.
Witnesses who saw the van driving with the victim on the roof called 911. Someone followed the van to a house in the 1500 block of North Krug, near 13th and 127th Street East, Ramzah said.
Police have not yet been able to confirm whether the driver lives at that house, which is in an upscale development. Crime scene tape surrounds the driveway, where the gray and tan van still sits.
