oh man, leftovers for lunch today....

Spanish rice, a tamale, and red chili sauce. All homemade yesterday (well, the tamale and red chili were homemade a couple of weeks ago and thawed yesterday). Oh man, my taste buds are dancing. DANCING, I tell ya.

Didn't mean to spam C&B, but I couldn't resist sharing. Yum.

Unlike the glutton mike_c primitive, franksolich had a chicken sandwich tonight; white chicken, whole wheat bread, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cheddar cheese, Swiss cheese.  The top half of the bread was lathered with sour cream, the bottom half with blue cheese salad dressing.

And then a half-pint container of sour cream for dessert, eaten as if ice cream.

1. It's time to make a batch of tamales.

I have to find a source for corn husks because those things I get at Safeway are too narrow to roll a nice big tamale in.

8. I had some chicken flautas from Costco.

Meh. They were filling.

The smoke is so bad they're telling us not to add to it by using gas stoves.

10. It is, it's thick tonight and I feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest

I might have to go to urgent care tomorrow for an inhaler.

11. I had to scold a whole crew today who was working on our road and not ONE of them wearing their particle mask. I felt some kind of irritation just from being here in my studio with the road work going on along three sides of the room.

Might be better to go in sooner and not into the weekend.

12. Unfortunately, masks do nothing for smoke because the particles are too fine. I keep thinking this is what smokers must feel like all the time, no thanks.

Fortunately my asthma isn't bad enough for me to blow a bundle on a doctor visit, not yet.

It's just that everything stinks of smoke. The whole world stinks, my clothes stink, the furniture stinks, even the poor cat stinks.

There's a "back-story" on this, sir.

EMatahari lives out in the desert south of San Francisco, in an Airstream with her ancient mother.  It's in one of those California counties dominated by a corrupt Democrat political machine.

Some time ago, the county zoning board found something wrong with her private road, and demanded that she get it fixed.

EMatahari was astounded that they were being so nosy and so picky, and surprised at the suggestion some green stuff, folded, slipped into a hand, would take care of the matter.

I mean, I don't live in any machine-controlled place, and even I know how it works.

(I guess thus confirming EMatahari's reputation as the stupidest person on the internet.)

So now she's getting the road fixed, and probably she's using, ahem, undocumented labor to do it.

I've never been in one, but I imagine Airstream trailers can shake and tremble if the ground nearby is being shoved around.

So now she's getting the road fixed, and probably she's using, ahem, undocumented labor to do it.

Well, you know, they didn't just demand she get the jeep trail fixed, they declared the property unfit for human habitation and condemned it, contingent on the necessary roadwork. In reaction to the legal condemnation, the bank that holds poor, stupid Beth's mother's mortgage began foreclosure action. Apparently, poor, stupid Beth's mother's failure to maintain the property in an inhabitable condition was a violation of the terms of the loan. so poor, stupid Beth was facing eviction, since the camper has, for a couple of decades, not been in a condition that would allow it to be moved.

Poor, stupid Beth described those travails months ago, and ever since has stubbornly refused to update. So now she's obviously reacting to the repeated requests from decent and civilized people for current information. A crew of illegal Mexicans is emptying wheelbarrows full of sand and rocks into the yawning ruts in the jeep trail that leads from the gravelled county road back to the camper. All this could have been avoided by a small gratuity offered to the inspector who first arrived. Poor, stupid Beth has obviously never operated a restaurant.

Her "studio" is a curious affair. All her artistic gear has to be moved out of the "studio" whenever she, or her mother, or her deranged brother, or her drug-dealer son (during the brief interludes between his imprisonments), wants to use the shower.

One has to wonder what is making that patch of weeds grow so well, when nothing else is growing in the surrounding dirt and rock situation.

Do Airstream trailers come equipped with leach fields?
