I just watched "The Crater Lake Monster."
« on: June 04, 2011, 09:51:57 PM »
Its an old 70's flick with a stop motion dinosaur. Oh boy was this a stinker.
A couple of hillbillys were the comedy relief but they didn't do anything funny. and we were supposed to care when the monster got one at the end. I'm sure the movie audience cheered when this idiot got himself killed.

The cast was all movie stereotypes.
A sheriff with no deputies. The town doctor/coroner/all purpose scientist with mysterious ties to the state university. Two university kids on a summer research project. and a cast of walk-ons to feed the monster.

This movie deserved the MST3K treatment. Seriously, this needs to be mocked. I feel dumber for having watched it.
But MST3K ruined me for life. I will now watch bad movies on purpose.

I have to agree and I do miss the the robots that made the hilarious comments about the action on the screen.

My favorite was the movie about some man who was growing huge every day.  In one shot the man is in the hospital and a nurse lifts the sheet and the robots break in over her voice to give some very naughty observations on what what she saw.

I feel the program went down hill when they brought in others other then the lost in space dude and his robots.

Up to that point the program was clean and pure and total camp.   Adding others to the script changed the whole concept and it was never the same.

I used to love MST3K so much.  I even have the book.  I own several tapes.  I'm such a geek.

I prefer Mike so much over Joel.

I can't even remember the name of my favorite episode...it's set in space, of course, during the disco era.  It's the one where the Captain looks like Santa Claus and his daughter is old enough to be his mother, she wears aerobics clothes.  The bots riff on the male protagonist, "Chest Heartthrob!"  "Dirk Poundfist!"  "Clench Steeljaw!"  Do ya know the one?

Yes! I know that one!
I like Mike better too. Pearl made a much better villain.

My favorite was the Beginning of the End, about giant man eating grasshoppers. Literally, they attacked Chicago. The effects were so bad, when the bugs attacked Chicago buildings, they used real grasshoppers climbing...postcards. One of the best.

I've got that one on tape.  Outstanding.

One Saturday morning, I wandered downstairs and found my husband watching a sci-fi movie.  "Whatcha watching?"  "Dunno."  I looked at it a minute and said "you realize that they just strung Christmas lights on the spaceship, right?"   :rotf:

Sounds like he was in the Zone -- the Zone of Numbness due to all the dumbass commercials that infest TV these days.

Poor guy. I can relate. I see that glazed look in Mrs E's eyes all the time. She's hopelessly addicted to Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, Oprah, See-BS Sunday Morning, House -- aw, hell, she's just plain addicted to TV.  :whatever:
