PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Almost 20 years to the day that she was grabbed off the street, shot with a taser and hidden in a backyard compound, Jaycee Dugard was finally able to stand up to her captor and in a statement read by her mother told him that what he and wife did to her was “reprehensible†and said she was angry at them for stealing her life.
Just before a judge sentenced Phillip Garrido to 431 years to life in prison, Dugard told them that she chose not to attend the hearing because “I don’t want to waste another second of my life in your presence†and said she hated “every second of every day for the sexual perversion you forced upon me.â€
Prior to ordering Garrido’s punishment, El Dorado County Superior Judge Douglas Phimister told Garrido that he lacked a soul and said “what you did to this child is beyond horrible.â€
For her part in the abduction and sexual abuse, the judge sentenced Nancy Garrido to 36 years to life.
