Obama miscues on toast
A minor (royal) mishap (Video at link)

LONDON – It was all going so well.

But when the time came for President Obama to deliver his toast to Queen Elizabeth Tuesday night, the meticulously planned state dinner at Buckingham Palace turned, well, awkward.

As Obama began wrapping up his remarks, he put down his notecards and picked up his glass.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please stand with me and raise your glasses as I propose a toast,” the president said, as the guests stood up. “To her majesty the Queen.”

At this point, the band queued up “God Save the Queen.” But Obama wasn’t quite finished yet.

So he kept talking – over the British national anthem – and the president competed with orchestra for a few more seconds.

“For the vitality,“ Obama said just before the music started, “of the special relationship between our peoples, and in the words of Shakespeare, ‘To this blessed plot, this Earth, this realm, this England.’”

Obama raised his glass, but nobody else in view of the camera followed. And the queen, who had been looking straight ahead, glanced over to offer a pained smile.

“A minor mishap,” a BBC commentator said Tuesday night on air.

The White House declined a request for comment.

Saw that on FOX tonight.  The newsreader said conservatives were claiming that had Bush ****ed up so royally (albeit with more politesse) the media would have been all over it.  Does that qualify for a big NO KIDDING, or what? :argh:

And yeah, DUMBO looked equally pissed off and embarrassed that the Queen and the entire congregation ignored him in favor of a lousy national tribute.  Obama bin Dreaming of his Absentee Father thinks HE should be the center of the universe, as long as RuPaul agrees of course.

He doesn't respect our own country, why would he respect England?

This is how far in you'll have to go (about 3:35), to see the Royal Jug Ears 'perform'.

The Royal Wookie makes a cameo appearance for the 'fashionable' Wookie watchers too.

At one point the Queen glances at him, as if to say "shut the **** up and set the glass down, you fool ...".

Hehehe  ....

I disagree with you guys, Americans fought a long hard battle to free ourselves from the formality of the English Court.

I do hope the first lady did not cutesy to the Queen,  too much blood shed to make sure we Americans never had to that again.  Pisses me off when the English royalty comes to the USA to be met by the DAR and one two or a few forget themselves and curtsy to the Crown.

Someone had to tell the Royal Orchestra when to start playing, was this a mistake or a back hand to Obama after all the insults he in 2 years have placed on England.

Then on the other hand, the English Anthem was played so softly he may have mistaken it for Americas --My Country Tis Of The------- and considered it a back drop to the rest of the toast.

Any one that loves British Humor can see the Resurrection of Benny Hill as the Conductor of the Orchestra and Mr. Bean as the head Server.   :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

I guess it would have been more embarassing if we'd elected an old-school US Navy officer (And I don't mean the mealy-mouthed John McCain, either).

this is the kind of thing that happens when you allow a community organizer to leave the 'hood.

No common sense, no sense of propriety, nothing but narcissistic "it's all about ME" speeches.

This guy wouldn't recognize the National Anthem of ANY country -- least of all his own, which is Kenya -- if they sent it to him on a CD.

****ing idiot. He's an embarrassment to morons everywhere.

This mistake probably would not have happened if all the points of established protocol had been followed. You can bet that the British had that dinner completely scripted from start to finish, and the military Band that was there has probably played at such occasions forever. So you have to figure that someone (maybe the Chief of Protocol?) probably did not brief King Stinky on the correct way to give a toast, as when you offer a toast to the Queen and mention her title as being the recipient of the toast that, that is the end of what everybody expects you to say, and is the cue for the national anthem to start. But in this case the Prince of Flatulence just kept on yapping.

Kinda funny that Magilla Gorilla (the First Marxist Wookie), all prim and proper in her latest "Jeffersons" outfit, had to sit through it too.

I think it's pretty obvious that he was expecting the orchestra to suddenly stop playing because, as we all know, the world revolves around him.

Why do I keep hearing a little voice in my head in the Queen's voice saying "Payback's a bitch 'eh Barrack?" By simply doing nothing in a most dignified way she turned Teh Kenyan into the court jester. :yahoo:  As the very French John Kerry might say c'est dommage. :lmao: :lmao:  Paddy O'bumbler court fool.  It fits.

I hadn't heard about this.  I read this headline and cringed.  "WTF has he done now?"  It's been an embarrassment from the start, beginning with sending back the Churchill bust.  And you're right, he kept on talking because the world is supposed to revolve around him.
