Not really

Sorry for the tease in the title, but I thought this would be fitting for this forum.
I'm reading Chaz Bono's book Transition: The Story Of How I Became A Man, and I'm finding the book very interesting. Personally I have no issue with someone choosing to change their sex as long as they don't have any psychological problems which would cause them to regret it later on. Chaz is also a very good writer and seems like he is very self aware. Now onto the political stuff.
Chaz is a leftie, and as we know Cher is a leftie, so I'm almost done with the book and I read this part and thought "yeah, that sounds like Republicans" contrary to what DU likes to think of us. here's the part of the book I found really interesting:
Once in Palm Springs, I first approached Mary (Chaz's stepmother and a Republican) and told her about my plan. She asked me some health questions. And she said "If this is what you need to do to make you happy, then I totally support it and support you".
She then asked me if I would be comfortable telling her new husband, Connie Mack (Republican) a Republican Congressman from Florida. I was, and he was totally cool about it. This was one of the first times I actually got to know him and I was thrilled it went so well.

All in all it was an amazing lesson that I should never judge a book by it's cover. Here was the Republican side of the family being completely accepting, embracing and supportive, and I say that as a lifelong active Democrat. I'm not trying to make a political statement, and I certainly don't mean to offend anyone, my point is that those of us who are politically active often demonize individuals of the opposing party instead of understanding that we are all just people.
I just found it interesting that in the book Chaz came out as a lesbian 1st to his Father a
Republican and hid it from his Mother a
leftie for quite a few years, and in the book Sonny a
Republican was very accepting of his Daughter being gay whereas Cher a
leftie had a difficult time with Chaz being gay and then Chaz being transgender.
I have no desire to diss Cher, I happen to like her even though her politics are different than mine, and I'm sure as a Mother she had concerns about Chaz's health, but Cher also had concerns about Chaz's image and how it would affect her, nothing wrong with that, but I find the left so hypocritical when it comes to so many issues.
