I hear tell squishy moderates don't bruise easily when you chase 'em off the damned stage with a Louisville Slugger.

Lets find out if it's true...  :beathorse:

2003:

The candidate said he favors a universal health care system that would move away from employee-based health policies and make it mandatory for all Americans to have health insurance.

Daniels envisioned one scenario in which residents could certify their coverage when paying income taxes and receive a tax exemption that would cover the cost.

"We really have to have universal coverage," Daniels said.

I am not sure if he perhaps he was trying to make the point that it would take more than just the Conservative base to win, but if that's what he was trying to say, he gets an 'F' on that one.  The guy seems to have all the charismatic appeal of Bob Dole, even if he was right on the money all down the line (Which appears to be far from the case) he'd be dead meat going up against Obama, who has nothing actually going for him BUT carefully-schooled charisma and his skin color.

A little more info. Is Mitch Daniels a RINO?

He blames the tea party for losing the Senate. He also told Newsweek that taxes may have to be raised. He also suggested he could support a VAT (value added tax) and a tax on foreign oil. He also follows the RINO playbook in saying that we should not focus on social issues.

------------------------------

Indiana Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels declined Tuesday to support a GOP-pushed right-to-work bill that had led House Democrats to flee the state to avoid a possible vote on the bill.

Quote
“I don’t attempt to dictate the agenda. I’m not in position to, really, of a separate and free-standing superior branch of government,” Daniels told reporters in an afternoon press conference. “For reasons I’ve explained more than once, I think there was a better time and place to have this very important and legitimate issue raised.”

---------------------------------

Daniels also seemed to say that Democrats fleeing the state was a “perfectly legitimate part of the process,” which is how he described the “activities of today.” Does this sound like a conservative? This election really is about paychecks versus food stamps. This election is about liberty versus tyranny. And this clown thinks we (republicans) have to bend over backwards to make not only Democrats and Marxists "like us", but also this country's enemies, BEFORE we can even have a "conversation".

Sounds like just the kind of nutless "Republican" that the cogs in the Chicago Political Machine WOULD like (to campaign against).

Mitch Daniels Will Not Seek GOP Nomination

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels has informed supporters he will not seek the Republican White House nomination.

In an email first mailed to the Indianapolis Star and obtained by Fox News, Daniels said that he is caught between conflicting duties: family and country.

"The answer is that I will not be a candidate. What could have been a complicated decision was in the end very simple: on matters affecting us all, our family constitution gives a veto to the women's caucus, and there is no override provision," he said

I'm sure Daniels would get a rousing endorsement (and is getting a HELLUVA LOT of pressure to run) from the likes of the Dede Skuzzyfavas, Mike Steeles and Lindsay Graham-nasty's of the GOP.

Which is why I only identify as a Republican for the right to vote in the primaries.
