Memphis flooding
« on: May 09, 2011, 06:49:16 PM »
So for my Memphis folks here on the board, I drove down to Riverside and Beale Street on Friday.  If you know the area you will remember this bridge

This is the Mississippi going over it's banks.  It's 3 miles wide now at the Memphis bridge.  Supposed to crest tonight at 7pm.  This was on Friday and about 2 feet lower than today.  Tom Lee Park is missing and Harbor Town is flooding on the Mud Island side.

I am a land surveyor with my hubby and we have been working the newest sewer interceptor project on Wolf River.  It flooded out into the woods we are laying the sewer and it's up to my upper chest when we go in.  Very gross.

Just thought I would report. :hyper:

Thanks for the photo.  I've been to that spot (back when the bridge was new   ::)).

Did people finally evacuate or will rescuers have to risk their lives tonight and tomorrow?   :banghead:

Friend of mine showed some photos on FB yesterday. Mud Island is almost completely submerged, at least what I could see.

Oh I am sure they will have to risk their lives.  According to all the news photos I have seen only the black population is affected by this flood.   ::)

Isn't every street in Memphis "Riverside" now?

Haven't been to Memphis since 1999, when we did the Rendezvous, the Peabody and their duck walk, and caught a performance of the symphony.

The gig was outdoors alongside the river, so I'm guessing that that area is most likely 20 feet under water now.  :p
