Briefly: target heavily Republican counties and look for any excuse to get bags of ballots removed from the recount.
http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/121396294.htmlSorry, but this is ominous: The JoAnne Kloppenburg recount campaign appears to have wanted bags of votes from Brookfield not counted.
One of the Kloppenburg observers at the Waukesha County recount, the Journal Sentinel reports, “objected to the counting of those ballots where bags appeared to be open.â€
Lisa Sink of Patch similarly reported that the observer, Bill Hotz, “objected to opening the bags, saying there was no way to know if the ballots inside were secure and untampered.†Brookfield’s city clerk, Kristine Schmidt, “said the bags are kept in a locked vault until city highway workers put them in boxes and drive them to the county clerk's office. Schmidt said the bags were heavy with large stacks of ballots from Wards 1, 2 and 3, which places strain on the plastic bags, causing tears and a gap at their opening.â€
The retired judge overseeing the recount, Robert Mawdsley, ruled the ballots could be counted after all.
Notice where, of course, the place this objection concerns: Brookfield. There is, remember, no reason to suspect the Brookfield ballots any more than those of any other place – the counting error that led to Brookfield’s Supreme Court result being overlooked until after election day was in the county clerk’s computer, not in Brookfield’s ballots. But Brookfield voted heavily for incumbent David Prosser, so throwing out bags of ballots from there will go a long way toward erasing his honestly insurmountable lead in the race.
With Prosser’s lead still above 7,000 votes, an order of magnitude larger than leads reversed by other statewide recounts around the country, Kloppenburg won’t end up on the bench from the occasional mistake here or there. I find it hard to imagine that the interests supporting her legal team are in it just to cause chaos, however beneficial that may be for them. To overrule the voters, the Kloppenburg people would have to get whole tracts of Prosser-leaning geography disqualified – and that’s certainly what it looks like when their observer wants Brookfield ballot bags thrown out.
Democrat election motto: "Win at any cost."
Oh, and she's picking on nuns, too:
