I am ****ing pissed off with the NDP and I say this as coming from a family
   
that been NDPers since its inception. Big ****ing deal they are the opposition. It means dick all now that Harper has a majority. I'm pissed off they relentlessly attacked Ignatiff in their ads instead of focusing on what Harper would do and has done.

I voted for Olivia Chow because I voted stragetically but will never vote NDP again. They are the ones that brought down Martin's minority and are responsible for Harper getting his foot in the door.

A Harper majority is a ****ing disaster. Next election I'm voting for the Green Party.

The NDP's goal has always been the elimination of the Liberal party, even if this means a conservative government. They finally did it! Congratulations! Welcome to 4 years of hell.

It's not like there were these polls that showed that the voters would have thrown out Harper if ONLY they had a guarantee that the Liberals were going to be stronger than the NDP.

The Liberal Party's defeat was there OWN fault for not being the party of Pearson and Trudeau any longer. Nobody WANTED to replace the Tories with a party that was only slightly different.

You can't put this on the NDP.

Why do you think Canadians buy into Harper and the Conservatives? Don't they comprehend what happened in the US under Bush and his neocons? Do they not see what hell privatised healthcare is like?

No, this is not the fault of the NDP. The Liberals have been on self-destruct mode ever since Paul Martin stepped down. They have no vision, and their whole campaign was run on 'we're not Harper'. NDP captured the imagination of Canadians. Yes, the next 4-5 years are going to be ****ing horrible. I don't think the long term will be.

My ex-inlaws live in Canada.  During visits, I would raid the bookshelves.

Anyway, thanks, Compaq for the update!  What's going to become of those poor DUmmies who keep declaring "I'M GOING TO CANADA.  NOW."  
They keep ignoring the pesky facts:

1)  It isn't the Vietnam War era anymore.  You can't just waltz in with your hippie headband and a knapsack.
2)  The country has drifted to the right.  The Dark Side.
3)  You are required to have a boatload of money, and no DUI's on your record whatsoever.

If I understand this election correctly (and I'll admit that I am woefully ignorant when it comes to non-US politics.  I'm trying, but I'm sure that I miss subtleties)  The Conservatives have actually been  the majority party for the past couple years.  This election was the result of a no-confidence vote by parliment, but it has not changed which party is the majority.  Basically, nothing has changed, the DUmmies just prefer Canada because it isn't the US.  

However, I have heard a Canadian argue that their conservative party is to the left of the US Democrat party.  From what I've read, I don't think I agree, but I'll toss it out for discussion by those who might have more information.

The NDP made huge gains this election, so this election was good for them. It was also good for the Greens.

The Liberals and Bloc had it backfire on them. The Bloc is more or less gone, last I herd it was going to lose it's status, and the Liberal party won't be in power for years.

So it worked out well for some and very poorly for others.

Yes because they picked up more seats and have more seats than the Liberal and NDP parties combined so they went from a minority Conservative Government to a majority Conservative Government.

Canadian TV is definitely beyond boring. I've been stuck in the sticks of Quebec where the only English TV available was CBC with a two-hour discussion of voting trends in the rural ridings of Manitoba.

SCTV, and all of its Melonville characters, was great. I still tell people that if they buy something, they may get a free budgie.

The Trailer Park Boys, at least the first four or five seasons, is an even better show, but will never play here because of the drugs and profanity. It gives a pretty accurate picture of life in Halifax.

The All Canadian Show episode of SCTV is what I always think about when I think of Canadian TV, never having been there. "It's a Canadian fact..."

One summer in the 1970s, we got some sketch comedy show from the CBC that I liked. All I can remember of that is some running gag skit about Caesar misnaming Caesar salad when his chef presents him with it.
