Ding Dong, UBL is Dead!

This is one of those days in which most Americans high-five each other and affirm that, while it might take almost 10 years, several billion dollars, and a couple of blown opportunities beginning with Bill Clinton, we’ll get the son of a bitch that waged war on our soil.

Usama bin Laden reportedly took a bullet in the head at the hand of a U.S. Navy SEAL. This is sweet revenge and justice served not at the hands of some Pakistani soldier but of a U.S. operative who choppered in, rappelled from that chopper, went to where the bad guys were, and put lead on target.

After watching the jubilation on Times Square and celebration in front of the White House on Fox News and on CNN, it occurred to me that most Americans will never know the identity of the SEAL that had UBL in his sights and squeezed the trigger. And that is a good thing.

SEALs work in stealth mode. As members of the Special Operations Command, their identities and background remain cloaked in anonymity. It’s obvious to everybody why that is. Going where they go and doing what they do, they not only put their own lives at risk but those of their families as well. Their missions must be safeguarded as well, as it does us no good at all to have our enemies know what our SEAL and Delta Force operatives are doing.

But I have to imagine the SEAL that put that bullet in UBL’s head is known throughout the SOC community. And they are proud him and his performance.

Can you imagine the unbelievable strain and tension of packing your gear, knowing you’re going after UBL, that the president had approved this particular mission and knowing that there’s a good chance you’ll be able to exact revenge for the rape of 9/11? And knowing also that those thoughts must instantly be replaced by only the mission and the details of that mission? And then, toward the end of a swift and deadly mission, having the world’s No. 1 bad guy in your sights and then having the privilege, duty, and responsibility of squeezing that trigger to obliterate the man that brought so much pain to so many people?

Well done, Navy SEAL. Your attention to detail and performance was exemplary.

But of course, that’s the SEAL way of doing business.

Well, not to suggest that the US government never lies to its peeps (  ), but DNA testing is apparently being done on a sample from the corpse.

And I'm sure there were tons and tons and tons of photos taken.

But Barry has not authorized release of that information yet. The stuff that's floating around on the innerwebz is either fake, altered, or otherwise "unauthorized".

Good job, Euph!!

While we do not, and more importantly should not, know the name of the SEAL who did the actual "kill shot" ....lets's take this opportunity to thank all SEALS and Spec Ops service members for their incredibly brave work. They go into every mission knowing there is a very good chance they might not make it out. It takes a special individual to be able to do this. Thank God we have Americans willing to do this for the safety of all of us. God Bless them and also their families.

Hamas condemns killing of "holy warrior" bin Laden

GAZA (Reuters) - The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Monday condemned the killing by U.S. forces of Osama bin Laden and mourned him as an "Arab holy warrior."

"We regard this as a continuation of the American policy based on oppression and the shedding of Muslim and Arab blood," Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip, told reporters.

Though he noted doctrinal differences between bin Laden's al Qaeda and Hamas, Haniyeh said: "We condemn the assassination and the killing of an Arab holy warrior. We ask God to offer him mercy with the true believers and the martyrs."

Egypt Muslim Brotherhood condemns Bin Laden death

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, a conservative organization with links around the Islamic world, has condemned the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden by U.S. forces as an "assassination."

The Brotherhood, which seeks the establishment of a state run according to Islamic principles through peaceful means, is Egypt's most powerful and organized political movement.

The statement Monday said the group "is against violence in general, against assassinations and in favor of fair trials."

Bin Laden and his jihadist allies, however, have repeatedly condemned the Brotherhood's more moderate approach and willingness to work within the system.

The Muslim Brotherhood will be competing for half of Egypt's parliamentary seats in September's elections.
