3. The ruling regime is little more than an authoritarian oligarchy pretending to be a "workers' party"
They have embraced predatory capitalism. They are not communist and have not been for decades now. The only thing in common with Mao is that they're still as authoritarian as before.

Oh, now this is funny. They're not Communist? Suuuurrrreeee...... the ****in' DUmmies know better than the Communist Chinese government.

Damn these people are f'n idiots. Communism isn't an economic model. It's a governmental model based on the principles of a Socialist economic model. They're ALL an anathema to Capitalism in a Republic.
NAMBLA is a left-wing organization.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

Fascist/communist still the same tint of black.  Seriously what is the difference between nazi germany and communist ussr?
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

They're both very repressive politically, but citizens of Nazi Germany had vastly more economic freedom than did Soviet ones.

PBS did a series China From the Inside.  It was really interesting.

China is most definitely communist. I expect after the Olympics are over the Yuan will go down in value, that the current government is overinflating it.

You should read Kang Zhenguo's biography.  He grew up during Mao's Cultural Revolution and wound up in a prison/labor camp for two years for speaking out against the government.  Yale University brought him to the US to teach Chinese in the 80's.  While he was living in the US, he regularly sent magazine and newspaper clippings to his friends.  On a vacation to China, he was arrested and thrown in jail for "subversive actions" against the government.

I'm in the market for a new book, that sounds interesting Chris.
