it's time for the rich to make some sacrifices for their country.   Updated at 5:53 PM

There are millions of Americans who are suffering today -- people in poverty, over a million homeless and most don't know where their next meal is coming from. This includes many, many children, who go to bed hungry, not knowing where their next meal will come from. And those are the ones who have a bed to go to.

There is a solution for this, and that is for the wealthiest people in this country to start paying more taxes. They can afford it; they are multi-millionaires and billionaires who will never have to want for anything. Tax the richest 10% at 50%, and the richest 1% at 75%. They would hardly notice it. Of course, they may not be able to buy that second yacht they've been wanting, or their seventh mansion -- but what's more important, having yet another mansion or having a roof over the head of every man, woman and child, and three meals a day for every family? Paying taxes is patriotic. The rich need to start being more patriotic.

This goes for corporations, too. Companies like Wal-mart, Target, McDonald's, etc. need to start paying their employees a living wage. I work for Wal-mart, and have been for six years now. I get a raise every year but still make below $10 an hour. While Rob Walton, Lee Scott, Mike Duke, et al, make billions. Yet many of their employees struggle to make ends meet.

Jesus Christ told the rich to sell their possessions and give to the poor. Many Christians talk about Jesus coming back and setting up his earthly kingdom, well if that's true then he will rule as a socialist.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x948315

Why not just take all their money from them?
That is the ultimate goal of liberals anyway. They want everyone to be equally poor.
Anyone who seriously thinks that 75% of anyone's income should be just taken from them is insane.
Anyone who can assume that someone else wouldn't miss 75% of what they earn is also insane.
If we started taxing income at 75% do you think the rich would even bother to earn that money in the first place?
Since they already have so much money wouldn't they just say screw it and retire?
I know would. If the govt was going to start taking 75% of what I make after a certain amount, I would reach just under that amount then pack up and go home till next year.

And this talk that paying your taxes is patriotic what about the people who pay no money into taxes yet get a huge refund every year. Are they not being patriotic?

1. TAX AT 90%!!!!

This is what we did in World War 2, and the rich happily obliged

Let's tax you at 90% and see how well it works first.

16. I think bonuses and luxury goods over $150,000 should be taxed 100%.

Certainly not houses but their second and third homes, boats, Bentleys, etc.

Did it ever occur to you that when the evil rich buy luxury goods, they buy it from a corporation that employees people.
Put a 100% tax on a luxury item, sales go way down then another evil greedy corporation starts cutting jobs, then you have 100s of people stimulating the economy by collecting unemployment.

6. They used to

Granted, they don't anymore

So **** 'em - take all their shit

And if they complain, take more of their shit until they shut up

How about we take your house and let Bobo have it?
If you complain then we will take your weed stash.
Still complaining we take your cheetos.
It's about time you sacrificed something for your country.

15. I saw a show on TV last week (CBS Sunday Morning maybe)

where three very wealthy guys were interviewed and siad they wanted to pay higher taxes. They have on organization of many wealthy people, I forget the name. They said they wanted to do it for the good of the nation. Strange but true.

Tell ya what when those rich people start refusing all the deductions when they file and refuse any refund, or even just write a check above and beyond what they pay now, then I will listen to them. Until then it's all just empty rhetoric.

The fact that so many people think like this makes me think our country is eventually doomed.
One day these asshats may be the majority.

Start with the leftist land of la-la, then hit the music industry.  Once they have lightened the burden of poor Americans you have precedence to hit the fat cat CEOs of other companies.

Streisand, Spielberg, Hanks.... come on, they will give up 90% willingly, so definitely start a grass roots campaign with them to lead this good will charge to take their money (which come on, is rightfully yours am I right?).

We'll just wait here and watch how that goes for you.

It's time for the welfare parasites to make some sacrifices, get a damned job and become productive members of society. I guarantee there are a whole hell of a lot more of them than there are the rich.

Uh huh.

By the way, I'm getting ready to take off for a few days--business, and it's north, not south, of here, and so Oklahoma can remain serene and confident that franksolich is leaving Oklahoma alone--but something hilarious happened up here on the roof of Nebraska Saturday afternoon, and I need to pass it on.

The cops along U.S. Highway 20 stopped a motor vehicle bearing Oklahoma license plates for "erratic driving."

The driver was an old hippie, his mid-50s, and of course had an Oklahoma driver's license, from near the border with Missouri and Arkansas.

He was cited for careless driving, and for possession of marijuana.

They weren't sure what to do with him, as he seemed pretty harmless, but decided to put him in the jail so as to air out for a few hours; get the dope out of his system.

When suppertime came, he was definitely an avid carnivore, putting away a 32-ounce steak like there was no tomorrow.  And without the use of knife-and-fork.  Just jawed the whole thing down using just his hands.

Towards midnight, because it was getting to be Easter, and as we do Easter up here, he seemed to have recovered some of his driving abilities, the marijuana worn off, and so he was let go, and last seen headed south.

While he was being held, his vehicle was searched, and a long-handled wood-axe was found in the trunk, along with lots and lots of empty Tupperware containers.

One wonders what that was all about.

Its way past time that the 50% of the people that don't pay taxes and get a check from the US Government started to pay their fair share . No more free rides and don't tell me they can't afford it because what they do get is an income and they can pay their share at the rate of 10% of what they are given or they get a JOB.

I've always said that any free loot the parasites get from the gummint should be taxed as income. That is exactly what it is too, because it has been taken from someone else with the threat of force.

The poor of America could dine off of Michael Moore for at least a month.  It'd cut down on food stamps.

Do you mean figuratively, as in Moore foots the bill or do you mean literally, as in carve him up and serve him?

With Moore footing the bill, fat cat that he is, he could rival McDonald's "Millions served" tally.
With Moore himself actually served up on the buffet, fat cat that he is, I'll wager he could be kept alive with a Krispy Kreme puree feeding tube and treated as a renewable resource likely last indefinitely.
Maybe we could offer him to UNICEF and ship him off to one of those famine plagued countries?

They sure are big on sacrifice, as long as they think it's going to benefit them, and someone besides themselves gets to do the sacrificing.
