Here's a fun tax-time story:

A friend of my wife is separated from her teabagger moron husband, and the divorce is in the works. So, tax time is coming, and soon-to-be-ex-hubby calls her to ask what they're going to do about taxes. She's employed at a regular job, and will get a refund if she files separately. He's self-employed and has skipped all his quarterly payments. He would have had the cash available, but he emptied an account with $12,000 in it to invest in...wait for it...Dinars.

My wife told her friend that she should file separately and tell him to sell his Dinars and take his profits.

I just love tax time!

Dinars - You can always buy, but you can never sell. Their time is surely coming, though. Yes, indeed....

Yeah, yeah.

Another instance of a primitive wishing it would happen, rather than that it really happened.

2. It's the official currency of Iraq. Right now, it's a very active investment scam, much beloved by teabaggers, who think, for some reason, that the dinar is going to shoot up in value anytime now. They're buying 'em up like nobody's business.

One good thing, though, about investing in Dinars: If there's ever a toilet paper crisis, they'll come in handy for those clever folks, while we're all scrambling for suitable materials.

Anybody heard of this?  We're buying Iraqi dinars?

Actually, it might be a good idea, given what the Big Zero's doing to the dollar.

My ex and I had to file separate returns back in 2001 when she left.  What she didn't realize was that she didn't change her W-4 when she left. 

When we filed jointly, since I had the higher paying job, I had more withholding on my check than she did. 

SOOOOOOOOOOOO, I got back almost all my withholding, (I had the kids) and she had to pay over $2,000 in taxes!   :rotf:

Funnier still, the asshole she left me for didn't give her a single penny!

The ones I've grown to hate lately are those stupid "intervention video call" commercials for the cholesterol drug. "Put down the remote and listen." I immediately switch to another channel. I hate those almost as much as the hard-on commercials.

I thought you had to be actually divorced, finalized, to file separately if you had filed jointly before, has this changed?

I am beginning to wonder if the Mayans might not have been correct in predicting the end of the world in December 2012, at least if Barry gets re-elected.  I tend to believe the USA might collapse under the sheer stupidity of a majority who would vote this charlatan into office after he royally reamed them for 4 years.

I bought (I think) 25,000 dinar for less than $25.  Basically I wanted a piece of the currency.  If it does happen to go up in value (as happened with the Kuwaiti dinar after 1991), then bonus, but I'm not holding my breath or buying more of them.

I never got the memo!  I'm in the Tea party, and I've never heard of this.  What a stupid tale.  I don't understand why they don't understand the TP.  Small, fiscally responsible government.  That's it!  Not rocket science.   Certainly not Iraqui Dinars.   :mental:

A friend of mine that flies troops into Iraq bought lots of them for almost nothing. He thought it was a good way to support the new Iraq and if they go up in value it's just a bonus.

Yes...People often use it if they don't want to be attached to a spouse who is self-employed.

Another reason is for people who have lived apart and are 'considered unmarried'.

The 2nd reason can actually make you eligible for some of the single parent credits.

I don't get 2 people who don't work together, at least that 1st year when you were somewhat intertwined still, putting aside unreasonable and irrational spouses with whom that is impossible to do. Is it really any skin of each other's backs to sit down together that first year after being apart and figure out which filing status would benefit everyone(I refused to do joint though). No way.
