THE SPARKLING HUSBAND PRIMITIVE, #02 TOP PRIMITIVE OF 2010
Original message

What is your single biggest monthly cost?

Housing?

Car payment?

Alimony?

Child support?

Tuition?

Health Care?

Food?

(edit to add) Something Else?

Oh my again.

The sparkling husband primitive forgot one important item of expense for the primitives.

Dope.  It's not ten bucks an ounce any more.

And it's undoubtedly a major monthly expense for most of the primitives.

Anyway, this is a really big campfire, really long, and well worth reading in its entirety at the link above.

In the meantime, this personal message to the sparkling husband primitive; never mind a translation, because it's nothing more, really, than just an expression of good wishes:

Bullshit!  :bs:

Can some of my Texas peeps help me out on this one?  In college in Texas about 20 years ago, I lived in a house with two fraternity brothers.  Yes, an actual house, three bedrooms, and probably not the best insulated as it was rather old.  Even in the hottest months of the year, our electric bill was never more than $150.

89. Wow
I live in Texas and pay $150 to $400 (average around $250-$300) a month. That's for a 3,500 square foot house that is occupied practically 24/7 and is filled with electronics. You have a massive place, a horribly inefficient cooling/heating system, or need better insulation or something.

What do you pay per kwh? We paid something like 10 cents last year and it is lower this year.

Now, my biggest cost is trying to make it day to day without income, no assets, no savings. That cost keeps going up, up, up in a non-financial sense. The balance of my life is now zero-minus.

Whore with no shame is lying.  Period.

My electric bill for a 1,700 sq. foot home averages $200/month.

The rental homes I manage/own run in the 700 sq. foot to 2,000 sq. foot range and the highest bill I've heard of is $350 - $400/month.

I'm looking at my last bill right now;

$155.24 for March

$.0334/kWh - Delivery charge
$.0673/kWh - Energy charge

1415 kWh used.

Of course she's lying. She lives in a trailer. She can't spend $1000 a month on electricity unless she's running 500 grow lights, or supplies electric hot water to the whole trailer park. And if she could afford $1000 a month electricity, she wouldn't be living in a trailer park.

Of course primitives lie, all of them, but the unappellated eohippus has a habit of sneaking in likes that she doesn't really need to tell, and so many of them.

It must be an interesting household budget for the High Priestess's family: $2,000 a month her "nursing" salary, $500 a month her share of her medical insurance, and now $1,000 the electric bill.....and don't forget that she has to pay automotive insurance on three vehicles.

She's the ultimate expert on making do.

We had a 3500 sq ft house, three a/c's and a pool pump and our highest electricity bill was about $400-$500 during the hottest part of the year.  The rest of the year it would be really inexpensive compared to our electricity bill EVERY month in CA

Our electricity bill in CA runs around $350 a month when we DON'T turn on the A/C and our pool pump runs 1/4th of the time we ran ours in Texas. We don't have a choice in CA for our electric company.  We have tiered rates here and it's a total scam, it is impossible to get the lowest rate (and we always pay the top rate). In Texas, electric companies compete and are always offering lower rates to either keep you or get you to switch. When we do have to use the A/C here in CA our bill can be over $600 and we only run it in the afternoon until the sun goes down because it is cool at night and in the mornings here.  In Texas during the summer you have to have the A/C running 24/7 yet our electricity bill was cheaper.

Should I feel badly about paying $35-40 a month for electricity?

Of course, we're talking "single male, modest life-style" here; if there were other people (wife, dependents, whatnot) involved here, with a trendier life-style, it would probably run to about $100 or more.

But at any rate, if the stove here were electric rather than natural gas, I'd happily pay a larger electric bill, say, circa $50-60 per month.  But alas, francescosolichi is stuck with explosive natural gas, and feels compelled to toss all the cats outdoors before he dares turn on the stove, lest they end up in the next county.

I was wondering how much franksolich pays for electricity in the frozen wasteland of Nebraska.  My bill varies from almost nothing ($30) in the summer to $100+ during the winter.  How much does it cost to heat a drafty old farm house?

And does the electric company in California offer an average monthly bill payment service like the TVA or are you stuck paying the full amount?  If you've been in your home for at least 12 months, NES will average your bill and charge you that amount.  You just have to settle up in December.

I don't have the monthly bills handy at the moment, but I do recall the total cumulative natural gas bill for October-February as being $380 (five months).   It's an awesomely low amount, because I'm one of these people who likes hot water to be boiling when it comes through the tap.

I assume it's low because I use the natural-gas stove as little as possible, not at all if I can avoid it.

But again, remember--single male, modest life-style, which can make a difference in utility bills.

My power bill went from $300 / quarter to $400 / quarter last bill.

That's running 2 large fridge-freezers one chest freezer , electric hot-water and running a 2800watt electric "boiler" for several hours once a week plus misc.

Yes, you should. Even here in red state hell, where the rest of the country subsidizes our electricity through TVA (thank you very much), I pay a lot more than that. I could probably save some, but I like to keep it chilly in the house in the summer. The summer heat is so stifling, I like to feel that icy wave when I come in the door. We use explosive gas for hot water and heat.

Exactly how does that work, with the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority)?

I was under the impression that the TVA wholesaled electricity to private power companies, who retail it.

I have no idea how it works. I just know that when we moved here, into a lot bigger house, with a much hotter summer, my electric bill actually went down a little. This southern electricity probably isn't as good as the more expensive unionized northern variety. We're probably buying substandard watts, or weak volts. More likely, we pay the same for a kilowatt hour, but since we have non-union kilowatt hours, they work harder.

Wow.  My cost per kWh is nearly double that.

Total bill: $87.32 for 482 kWh.

God help me when summer hits.

BTW--don't ask how much my oil bill was for this winter.  Just me.  70 for an hour in the mornings (7-11 am on Sat/Sun), 70 between 4-10 pm on weekdays, 54 the rest of the time.  Still used over 400 gallons.
