Clinton, Obama Say They'll Stand Up to China on Trade April 14 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama took aim at China while speaking to a business and labor group in Pennsylvania and pledged to crack down on unfair trading practices.``China should be a trade partner, not a trade master,'' Clinton told a conference hosted by the Alliance for American Manufacturing in Pittsburgh today. Obama earlier told the group that ``trade with China will only be good for you if China itself plays by the rules and acts as a positive force for balanced world growth.''Both candidates accused China of manipulating its currency, dumping goods into the U.S. market and violating intellectual property rights. Clinton challenged Obama to join her in calling for President George W. Bush to skip the opening ceremony at the Olympics in Beijing this year.``I'm still waiting for my Democratic opponent to give us a clear answer on the Olympics,'' she said. ``As a president, you've got to be able to make up your mind, and you've got to be able to stick with your decisions. And if you can't stand up to China over an opening ceremony, how are you going to stand up to China when it comes to trade and currency manipulation?''Obama, 46, an Illinois senator, last week said the Chinese need to take steps to improve their record on human rights. A boycott of the opening ceremonies ``should be firmly on the table but this decision should be made closer to the games,'' he said in a statement. More
