Question From a Layman
« on: April 08, 2011, 11:31:56 AM »
Just curious, but if the Govt shuts down at midnight, what will that mean for a disabled person such as myself. I mean, I wish I wasn't on it, but I am on SSI, so does that cut, completely disappear, or what? I'm working part time, so I can work on being a bit more frugal. I can alter my habits, and things. However, I'm a bit worried. I just had the idea to ask. When I don't know something completely, I like to be informed.

Thanks.

Well, that'll certainly make life harder for me. I'm not complaining (because I really don't like to) or anything. I'm just stating a reality. It's time to live a little bit tougher, I guess.

Is it wrong that my extreme dislike of the leftists has just increased tenfold? Especially since programs like SSI were meant exactly for people like me, and NOT for down the block, project hood rats who just use that money to buy drugs, and hookers??  :argh:

Well, Rush said at the end of his show that SSI will still be paid out. Along with the fact that Obama is trying to CUT money to Military members-which in turn hurts Military FAMILIES. This just pisses me off, and I would actually GLADLY give part of my SSI check to a military family to aid them. They sacrifice, and sacrifice so that their husbands/wives can keep civilians like myself safe from every nasty threat out there.

Obama needs to be punched in the face....repeatedly.

I heard a couple months ago that a shutdown would not interfere with social security (and presumably SSDI and disability) payments.  I seem to remember hearing the same being said back in the 90's.

My prediction is if the dems plan to shut down the govt tonight, Monday by lunch time they will provide some kind of miracle bringing it back online and saving the day. I believe the shutdown is just going to be a temper tantrum by the dems.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Hi,

Historically I believe when the government shuts down basically some government workers do not report for work, the so called non-essential.  Once they get a budget deal, I believe they normally paid the folks on furlough retroactive to the day they were furloughed.  Personally, if they decide to hold military and folks on social security hostage for political reasons, I would be really pissed if the folks got paid retroactively.

Such nonsense.  I sent the following to our local paper today.  Doubt they will publish it though.

Regards,

Dear Editor,

Let me see if I understand this correctly.  The president and democrat leaders are blaming republicans if the budget crisis forces a government shutdown.

Now isn't this the budget for the current year that began in 2010?  Didn't the democrats have a filibuster proof majority in congress for all of 2010?  Doesn't that mean they could have passed the budget any time they wanted to in 2010, but probably chose not to because they knew it would further hurt their re-election chances?

So, please tell me again how this can be the republicans fault?  What party is it again that put politics ahead of doing their sworn duty?  What party is it again that was so irresponsible they failed to pass a budget before the money began to be spent?

If all members of congress and the executive branch were docked for the days the government shut down I wonder just how quickly they would get things resolved.  Not a bad idea, beginning to believe they are also non-essential.
