Democratic congresswoman complains she can’t afford to give up her paycheck in the event of a shutdown

With 8.8 percent unemployment across the country and more than 8 million people claiming unemployment benefits, one California congresswoman wants people to know they’re not the only ones facing financial hardship. Who else might be? The lawmaker herself.

In an appearance on MSNBC Thursday, Democratic California Rep. Linda Sánchez talked about the downsides of a federal government shutdown. Some lawmakers, to the seriousness of the issue, have said they would forgo their paychecks in the event of that shutdown. Sanchez explained she just can’t afford to go along with that idea.

While some members of Congress are coming out to say that they don’t want to be paid during a government shutdown or would donate their pay to charity, Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) says she’s not willing to forgo her salary.

“I have to tell you, I live paycheck to paycheck, like most Americans,” she said Thursday afternoon on MSNBC. “It's very difficult for me to say, ‘Hey, I can give up my paycheck,’ because the reality is, I have financial obligations that I have to meet on a month-to-month basis that doesn't make it possible for me.”

Sanchez, ranking member on the House Ethics Committee, said she has student loans, a 2-year-old son, and homes in her district and in Washington – expenses that mean she needs every paycheck she gets. House members’ 2011 salary is $174,000.

Quick, someone hand me a tissue.

Meanwhile, but she won't urge her own president to accept the GOP budget or even pass the CR which funds the troops.

You remember the troops, don't you Rep. Sanchez? They're the ones who will be thousands of miles away from home and under hostile fire wondering if their families have grocery money.

Ah, Linda--the "dumb" one of the Sanchez sisters.  And considering how much of an idiot Loretta is (she's the one who claimed the border fence was akin to the Berlin Wall) that takes some SERIOUS doing.

Yo, Linda!  Maybe if you'd passed a budget last year when you were supposed to you wouldn't be dealing with this shit!

Suck it--suck it long and hard.

Lou Dobbs said yesterday that Congressmen and Congresswomen would collect their salaries during a Government shut-down, their staff wouldn't though.
