Hi

I would like to urge any CC'ers who live in WI and haven't voted yet to get out and vote for Judge Prosser.  You have until 8:00 PM.

Madison/Dane County is out in force so it is an important election since the supreme court is a state wide office.

Dave Blaska of Blaska's Blog is predicting Prosser by a hair.  A poly-sci  prof was on the radio yesterday saying if it were a normal election they would expect it to go to Prosser by 850,000 vote. He said the question was if the left was angry enough to get 850,000 vote and if the Tea Party/conservative/moderate could get enough turnout to counter it.

I've heard voting is high in some more conservative cities.

Do they allow same day registration and or registration close to the election?  Either one would almost guarantee a loss for Prosser.

They do. And there is some worry about all the outsiders and voter fraud. But I'm going to stay optimistic. Mr. Blaska is pretty good at calling elections.

Over 19,000 vote lead for Prosser, Dem Counties are heavily reported, Conservative Waukesha County has only 25% of their precincts reporting.

Prosser leading by almost 1,000 now, most of the heavily Democratic areas have reported in but the Republican Counties are still holding back!

Dunno about FR math but 85,000 out of 383,000 residents is pretty darn steep voter turnout (22%). If that 383,000 is voting age only residents 22% is big for non-presidential elections; so 22% of ALL residents voting tonight would be huge.

The thread is moving so fast but I think I read a voter turnout in either the last election or the Presidential election of 187,000 votes.

Okay, about Dane County. Someone else sent me a link to the vote totals by precinct. So I pulled in the results from the earlier primary just to see how many people typically vote in the precincts that are still out there.
Right now Klop leads Prosser in Dane County 119,756 to 42,812, or a bit under 75%, a lead of 77,000. The precincts in the February primary cast just over 70,000 votes. It looks like they'll cast about 180,000 votes in this election. That's about 2/3rds of the votes cast in the Kerry/Bush race, so it's a very high turnout.

Multiplying the February vote in the precincts still outstanding by 3 (to exaggerate, I believe the actual factor should be 2.5), that means there are 26,763 votes outstanding in Dane County. Even though 74% of the precincts have voted, I would estimate that 85.6% of the voters have voted, because the remaining precincts are smaller than average.

If we assume 75% of the remaining voters vote for Klop, that's an increase in her lead of about 13,400. So her total lead in Dane County would be 77K + 13K or 90,000 (and I think that's the high end).

My own spreadsheet had earlier projected Klop winning Dane by 86,000, so I don't think there's any reason to panic over Dane County. The real concern is the size of the outstanding precincts in Waukesha and other such Republican counties.
