Monday...day thread..."It's been a while..."
« on: April 14, 2008, 09:17:41 AM »
Long time since I've done a day thread and oh, look, the weather is back to cold and crappy.  :bawl: I've actually been knee deep in another semester so between that, working out, and the usual, I get tapped out on time. I'm taking a moment from a speech I'm writing to put this up.

TOTD: Speaking of speeches, do you find giving them comfortable for you or are you deathly afraid of speaking in front of people?

For me it depends. I think I like bigger crowds better since people become kind of like a big mass you can't see.  :lmao: I have a voice that I've been told is kind of well best left in intimate moments in that I usually talk as though I'm talking one on one with someone in private conversation and I have a lower, softer tone to my voice. My main area to work on it projection so that I don't come across as saying things under my breath. Eye contact, I have no problem with. I'll stare someone down any day of the week.  :lmao:

You?

I am not the least bit shy about speaking in front of groups.  I never have been.

Once while I was visiting another Lions Club, the tail-twister tried to embarrass me by making me get up and lead the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday".  I had been quiet throughout the meeting, so I guess the lady had assumed I was a meek wallflower.  She got a surprise.

The weather in north Texas is disturbingly cold for the middle of April.  I attended an outdoors party yesterday and jackets were required.  Not required by the host.  Required by the weather.

It was 34 degrees when I got up this morning.  It should have been around 60 degrees, traditionally speaking.  I am beginning to take this "new ice age" thing seriously.

It's blustery here today. 41 degrees. it was almost 80 on Sat. Oy!

TOTD: I get nervous when speaking in front of groups if I'm not prepared beforehand.

Just another day at school, but I don't have to work again until Friday.     :cheersmate:

One essay is turned in, another is half-way done, and a third has yet to be started (due on April 30th, though).

TOTD:  I can speak in front of large groups, but only if I prepare enough in advance.  Otherwise, I get very nervous.   Smaller groups tend to make me more uncomfortable, for some reason.

Trying to recuperate from the weekend from hell.

VERY LONG weekend.  Some good, but mostly frustrating.  Baseball all day Saturday ( 9am opening ceremony, to return home from our last game of te day at 8:00).  Youngest son had an awesome day (hence the good), older son, not so much (hence the hell reference).   Then a Basket Bingo fund raiser for dance on Sunday (I'd never HEARD of basket bingo till I arrived here...it's a huge thing, I guess)...9:30 -7:30 for that, although I did actually win once.

Weather is cooler today, but it's not too bad.

TOTD:  I don't mind talking in small settings, never have a problem voicing my opinion at meetings or whatever, though they tend to be unpopular opinions most of the time....formal speeches I don't particularly enjoy, but as long as I'm prepared, I'm fine.  I guess those years of teaching and subbing made speaking in public easier.

Sunny and warm today! :-)

Unlike what Undies said, I think the weather today is actually quite beautiful, it's 65 and not a cloud in the sky.  I think the difference between today and this weekend was it was windy as hell this past weekend and today there is hardly a breeze.

I went to the dentist again for two new crowns.  The shot didn't numb me enough so he gave me more, I ended up being numb to my nose.  I swear it felt like he was using a jack hammer in my mouth at one point.

TOTD:  I can speak in front of anyone when I know what I'm talking about inside and out.  I wouldn't be a good politician as I can't bullsh*t my way through something by pretending I know what I'm talking about when I don't.
