Cool story; Family Dog Kept Watch Over Missing Two-Year-Old Overnight

Seems the little guy took it upon himself to head out the back door and go exploring on his own. Fortunately the family dog tagged along and kept watch.
Why the search parties called it off and left it for morning is beyond me, if that were my kid I would have been out there non stop all through the night.
Happy ending this time though.  :II:

Someone give that dog a raw steak!

[I do find it odd that no pictures of the dogs can be found.  Some stories call it a Lab, a lot are calling it a Lab Mix.  How much you want to bet it's Lab x Pit Bull?]

The boy's biological father was flying home from his military assignment in Hawaii on Saturday night. Matthews said the state Department of Social Services had been notified that the living conditions in the boy's home were "deplorable."

Other than the "deplorable conditions" part that was pointed out, I think you kind of have to read between the lines.  Mother and boyfriend watching a movie.  Kid leaves the room to get juice.  Kid is able to leave the house by himself.  Mother doesn't call authorities until 45 minutes later.

I am betting it was more mom and boyfriend in the bedroom; child unattended (past bedtime); dog scratching at door to go out; child opened door; dog went out; child followed dog.

Maybe.  Who know?  Hopefully the cops push enough to get the whole story out of her.
