Rudy beats Obama, Huckabee and Romney come close in poll
« on: March 28, 2011, 03:03:01 PM »
Quote
Taking the same list of 11 potential Republican nominees and pitting them against President Obama shows some interesting results. While he only garners 8% of overall adults and just 7% of Republicans in the primary field, Rudy Giuliani is the only candidate on the list who edges out President Obama in a head to head match-up, 51% to 49%. The next two Republicans make it a close race but President Obama edges out Mitt Romney (51% to 49%) and Mike Huckabee (52% to 48%).

Wow. Its interesting because when I come on here, clearly these 3 are not the favorites. Huckabee is a popular figure with social conservatives but has issues with some fiscal conservatives, Romney is popular with traditional republicans but has issues on health care, and Rudy is liked by some, but others think he is too moderate on social issues. Interesting to me anyway.

Just think how well a real conservative would poll.

I dunno.  I'd vote for Huckabee in a nano second.  My personal choice for a Republican ticket would be Christie and Huckabee and I don't care which one is on top of the ticket.

Your thread title is:
Quote
"Rudy, Romney, and Huckabee beat Obama in poll,"

But the poll does not say that. In fact, what you quote does not say that.

The poll finds ONLY Giuliani (not Romney, Huckabee) beat Obama.

Also & most importantly, this is a Harris Poll. Lou Harris is a bias, anti-Second Amendment Liberal
from the old school. He was the Kennedy family pollster for decades.

In 1993, he notoriously fabricated a poll Liberal anti-gun politicians love to quote.
The Harris poll showed 20% of American school children had either been shot at with a gun,
or had fired a gun at someone themselves.

Harris polls are steaming piles of crap. But this Harris poll does not say what the OP claims.

LOL, HIM

Christie is probably the most honest politician in America. I'm sure he could beat Obama, but he is not going to run, especially when 3 folks who helped him get elected (Rudy, Romney, and T-Paw) are in the race, and he is friends with Gov. Mitch Daniels.

I like Rudy. He did a good job in NYC and has the right mannerisms to stand up to anyone on the left or anyone on the Media who trys to put him down. He is a good American and would get things turned around.

But as of now I haven't made up my mind. But I would be happy with Rudy if he were the Nominee. Anyone who can beat Obama and get the country back on track.

Well, there are some pros and cons I see with Rudy.

Pros:
He cut taxes, reduced crime, and reformed welfare as Mayor of New York City, a city I visit every so often and the greatest city in the world. I believe Rudy would be a free-market President and I also believe he would be strong like Bush on national defense. He is smart and very analytical, and feel he has matured as a human being since leaving the mayors office in 2002.

Cons:
In the past, Rudy has done some and said some controversial and at times, mean spirited things to people. There is little doubt the guy has a temper and he cheated on 2 of his 3 wives. Even though he was a great Mayor, he had mixed results as a prosecutor. Also, Rudy's stance on abortion and his support for keeping NYC a sanctuary city are problems he has.

It's hard to speculate right now because there are so many variables, including someone no one even is even thinking about deciding to run. I do know that someone's negatives and positives aren't bell weathers at this point. Sara Palin's are high because she actually has the balls to come out and speak against the regime, thus is pilloried by the press. Rest assured anyone else who runs against 0bama will get the same treatment. To her credit, she's at least proved she can take it. Poll Insider has been doing an interesting series on her electability but this is the first in the series. I'm sure you could find similar analyses of other front runners but she's my favorite choice so I follow her most closely.

And all have their baggage. If they don't the leftist press will find some anyway. During the election campaign whoever the nominee is he or she no longer has to be defined by the press because there will be ads, speeches, debates, etc. that will affect people's choice more than a biased media. The debates defined Reagan more than the press. Even though he was supposedly 25 points behind just a week before the election I believe the people being able to see the real CONSERVATIVE leader made the difference. America will always go to the conservative if he or she is strong and unapologetic. The problem is when they have someone who out nuance the left and play the centrist. Most misunderstand the squishy middle. They aren't looking for someone who is as undecided as they are, they're looking for someone who is strong enough to be able to persuade them to adopt their point of view. Even the middle is more conservative than they are liberal.

Personally, I'd love to see a combination like Palin/Cain, just to see the left twist themselves into knots justifying their (obvious) seething rage over a white woman who doesn't believe in a woman's right to choose to yank a less than perfect baby from safety of her womb and an uppity black man who actually had the gall to leave the liberal plantation. With every criticism of 0bama becoming about race, I'd just love to watch them squirm.

But I want him and I get everything I want.

Just a quick rundown on Christie, because I've seen differing reports:

1.  Pro-life
2.  Wants to incentivize clean energy, i.e., wind energy (fail)
3.  Expand charter schools to replace failing public schools; build up colleges to minimize "brain drain".
4.  Use line item veto; empower fiscal watchdogs; 10-point plan to punish criminal officeholders
5.  Marriage defined as one man, one woman.
6.  3.2% funding increase for NIH.
7.  Ok with either unionized state workers or civil service.
8.  Spent beyond government travel allowance as US Attorney. (fail)
9.  Generally favors welfare reform, gut COAH, has ID'd other failing welfare programs.

On The Issues has NO recorded statements or positions by Christie on the following:

Budget & Economy
Foreign Policy
Environment
Free Trade
Homeland Security/Immigration
Gun Control

There are a lot of blanks there, but it's still early in the game. Personally, I like Christie's ballsy approach. But I'm not sure he doesn't cater to the unions and other power brokers in NJ anyway, which makes him a fraud.

No matter who polls well now, that's all dwarfed by the factor represented by the price of gas in mid-2012.

Really nosing out Obama in a poll now is statistically insignificant vs. Obama nosing out another candidate.  There is just too much time and too many events before the election for it to mean anything.

Personally he is against abortion and would not appoint anyone to the Supreme Court who was for it. As for his personal life, unfortunately we don't have the luxury today of fine tuning the nominee to every high ideal. We have to come together and nominate a person who can win. If Rudy becomes that person, I am all for it.

Whats worse, is haggling back and forth with a narrow viewed Christian outlook turning off the voters who will be voting in the general, and then losing again because everyone is down and negitive about the nominee.

Conservatives have done just that for so many years it would be funny if so much were not at stake this time. And, Democrats plan on it happening again. I just want to see a smart choice. One who can win the general election. One who can stand up to the media and keep their cool. Someone with sea-legs. I don't really care how they score on the check-off list.

But I understand what your saying Patriot, and as a party we have to come to grips with the fact that every thing, every person wants has to be configured with what will work this time. We must insist on our priorities. The main one for me is removing Obama and his awful team from office. Setting America back on a common sense course of action.
