The Republican-backed voter ID bill passed the Texas House of Representatives on Wednesday night.

During the floor debate on the bill, Laredo Democrat Richard Raymond asked, “Anytime you deal with a law as comprehensive and as big as this you have to take into account people’s voting rights. You would agree with that, right?”

Plano Republican Van Taylor said, “I think it is important to remember that this bill is about making sure that the right people show up on election day and vote.”

“That the right people show up on election day?” Raymond asked. “Who are the right people?”

So, I did some Google searches..

the Human Rights Campaign - a totally liberal outfit - puts their estimation of transgenders between .25% and 1% of the population..  They also butter their number by claiming many of these people would have reassignment surgery if they weren't too poor, scared, etc etc etc .. So, this is the best case scenario for the transgender alliances..  If most of these [oppsex] trapped in a [sex] body people still look like their original sex, then the ID card wont be a problem.

However:

Other figures put the number much, much, MUCH smaller at 1 in 30 thousand males and 1 in 100 thousand females who will proceed with sex reassignment surgery.  When one considers the 1 in 30K number, and considers a population estimate of 25 million people in Texas, there are about 834 'disenfranchised' people to consider. I suspect out of that 834, most will get new ID cards, drivers licenses, etc. as having a photo ID that doesn't match may get the person into more trouble than being outed at the polling place, such as a bar, liquor store, or police pull-over.

I hate to break it to them, but they don't fool anybody.  Maybe in Sweden or something where they've perfected the technique.  Up here in this hellhole of a state.  It's usually the ones that look like they should be playing right tackle for the Bears that think a little surgery can make them look like a woman.  Usually their hands are the size of catcher's mitts too.  It's laughable if it wasn't so sad and twisted.

The dad drives the confused young man around. He has legally changed his name, but his gender is still "M" on his ID.

I feel sorry for the father that is placed in this situation. But I am also glad his father remains close to him as some parents walk away from their kids if they do not think exactly as they do. (Think: DUmmies)

The dad is a nice guy and it started slowly but over the years he looks more and more like a chick. I pray for the family. In Las Vegas he might blend in, but this town of 30,000 people outside of Las Vegas is a pretty small town, you run into the same people all the time.

Maybe it is a California law, but I've always heard that if your weight changes by more than 50 pounds, you are supposed to get new photo ID as your picture may not be recognizable.  You would think that gender reassignment would have the same requirements.

Well guys, what is the difference between the people in mental hospitals that believe they are Napoleon or Teddy Roosevelt and normal men that think they are a woman.??????

  Why do all these men want to be a woman, I can understand a female wanting a dick so she can pee up a rope or pee standing up, but MEN who do not want  to be a male confuse me. 

Males when born are to me amazing, birthing a girl is to replicate my self----to birth a child of a different sex then mine is very strange.

So when this male child decides to change sex and become a girl child, and needs chemicals and surgery to do so, a mother must ask if this is a mental illness,   is there a difference in a child believing they are King George, Valid the Impaler, a woman or a duck---Quack, quack

You see I do not have to understand this problem Men have, really none of my business, not even the Experts truly understand why people go transgender.     I do not care how society expects me to except the unnatural people, the people that think they are something other then in reality they are.

Where I live in Georgia they have a list of all the registered voters in a precinct. When you go to vote you tell them your name, show them your ID, and they mark you off the list, but for the sake of the DUmmies let's pretend that the ID showing didn't exist…

Let's say that Fred has decided to make "the change". If he goes in and tells them his name is Freida he won't be on the list. So when he explains his situation he will be outed. If he goes in and tells them his name is Fred the fact that he now has a set of boobs will probably out him. So what's the difference?

You are, of course, correct. the moment the former Mr./Ms. Primitive goes to the polls and gives the worker their name and address, they will be 'outed', unless they have one of those names that are often used for either sex. This is just the latest excuse they are using to suggest that presenting photo ID at the polls is bad, which makes me wonder why they hate it so much.

A ) The cost can be eliminated.
B ) The homeless can use the precinct voting location as their 'address'.
C ) Nobody is going to get 'Outed' who wouldn't end up that way anyway.
D ) A photo ID would be useful for many things beyond voting - including their beloved 'Universal Heath Care'
E ) Helps insure fair voting.

And many others...

So, Primitives - explain WHY do you hate this so much ? Because it seems nearly every complaint you had/have is easily addressed, and what small details aren't pale in comparison to the benefits gained by guaranteeing ones vote via photo ID.

Speaking as a transgender person, I have NO clue what the hubub is about.

If you're trans and live in Texas, you're just a flipping moron, to begin with.
You don't get to scream that you have to show ID at the polls.  Sorry- it's a completely reasonable expectation.

I show my military ID when I vote [and for everything else].
No gender marker at all on it.  :D
