Looking for an entry door with window/screen

I would really like to replace the steel entry door from the garage. There is a wonderful breeze that would help cool the house in the summer.

Normally, it would just take a regular storm door to give us a screened window, but the problem is that the steel entry door opens inward. There are 3 steps down from the garage to enter the house, and the concrete at the base of these steps was poured at a slight slant, so a door opening the other way is not an option.

Also, there are pets involved, so one of those instant screen things wouldn't work either.

I have looked all over, and cannot find a regular entry door with a slider window/screen option. A storm door alone would be too cold and costly in the winter.

1. How about a "dutch door", into which a screen could be fitted at the top?

2. That's a great idea!

I hadn't looked at that type of door. It probably wouldn't be too hard to build a frame and screen that would fit.

I am owned by several kitties, so maybe a heavier screen material?

Thanks! I will check this out to see if I can adapt one to our needs.

3. better check your building codes

those are usually fire doors and are installed by law

Ah yes.

Those governmental regulations the primitives love so much, excepting when they apply to themselves.

Every time a liberal complains about the hassles of dealing with a govt agency, I just grin ear to ear.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Yeah, the primitive better check the building codes.. Doors that lead outside should always swing out, never in. The door between the house and the garage should swing out to the garage in case of emergency. And, the odds are code requires that the door is an effective barrier against exhaust fumes from entering the house - a screen or some other opening or replacement door will certainly not pass scrutiny.
