Worker on disability ran 7-mile race

SF worker on disability ran race, prosecutors say
Bob Egelko, Chronicle Staff Writer

Emily Hegner competed in a 7-mile Muir Woods run in April 2008 that included a chunk of the grueling Dipsea Trail. She did all right, finishing 12th out of 23 women in her age group.

But three months earlier, according to the state Department of Insurance, Hegner was classified as disabled and was collecting workers' compensation benefits because of injuries she reported suffering in a slip-and-fall accident as a San Francisco hospital worker.

And almost five months after the race, the department said, she told an orthopedic surgeon she was in pain most of the time, couldn't return to work, and needed a cane to walk or climb stairs.

Hegner, 34, of Daly City turned herself in March 9 on criminal charges of grand theft, perjury and making a false or misleading statement in a workers' compensation claim, Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones said Monday. The San Francisco district attorney's office is prosecuting the case.

20. I'm relieved to know that RWers and many DUers have been right all along....   Updated at 12:56 PM

...we are mostly frauds.

This needed to be posted... because....?

There wasn't enough crap like this on the site which cannot be named?

Ohh odds are, you are a fraud one way or another Bobo.
I personally do not believe that you are living in your Buick. I am guessing you are a teenager living at home posting crap to gain attention from a bunch of internet losers. Or, perhaps you are a master mole tweaking the hell of the animals in the zoo called DU.

23. this needed to be posted because the wingnuts will use it and we need to be prepared.

Yep because you always need to make sure your talking points are straight. You can't argue based on facts and reason so you need slogans and ways to frame the debate so you don't have to argue.

22. So this fraud who bilked disability out of tens of thousands will be punished, and rightly so.

But the frauds that ripped us off to the tune of hundreds of billions got big fat bonuses.

Welcome the United States of Corporate America.

A lot of them got voted out in Nov. Hopefully we can send some more democrats to the unemployment line so they can help stimulate the economy.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Golly, you'd think they would want to save the money for people who are genuinely hurt.

Reading this you'd think they're more interested in the government power to distribute money than actually taking care of people in need.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

An SS disability check is the new welfare check...didn't you know?

Hell, a couple years ago up here we had a firefighter on disability competing in a bodybuilder contest.

It's the new normal around Boston.

Hell if can't get on welfare then just get on disability... unless of course you are actually disabled due to a work related injury... then you are screwed.   :banghead: :banghead:

It just wears me out. If these people would spend one quarter of the time applying themselves to a skill that they do to get a free ride they would become... well probably conservatives.

Before I knew about the Mayan 2012 calendar thing an eccentric but wildly talented engineer told me he calculated 2012 was when the takers of the world would tip the balance on the makers of the world. IIRC, he said, at that time those living off the total of all work would be greater than the total of all work. He said that would be a world changer. I was 18 and he has long since left this world. Looking at world conditions I find his prediction hard to refute. Too bad I did not discuss that with him more.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

You'd think the hobo harpy would be offended that someone was getting something she didn't deserve, thus taking money from the real losers like bobo. Thanks to people like this woman, the funds handed out to bobo aren't enough to buy new seat covers for the buick and that new iphone app that lists directions to all the local homeless shelters and tent cities.

Shit I can't run and I limp off to work every day!
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."
