More specifically, being a skinny, nerdy looking white guy has gotten me out of a traffic ticket like 99% of the time. I can't find another explanation for why I've been let off the hook so many times.

I got pulled over today on my bike for passing a big rig in a "no passing zone" on a stretch of back-country highway. When I was asked if I knew why he pulled me over, I stuttered over my words and told him I didn't know. When asked for registration, I didn't have it on me. And I must have been going close to 100 mph.

The cop told me how what I did was "very irresponsible". He sounded like he was pretty angry. He took my insurance card and license and went back to his car and started writing out the citation. And then he handed me a paper warning and LET ME OFF THE HOOK FOR EVERYTHING. ****ing everything!

I've been in similar circumstances in the past. I always hear about people being pulled over "driving while brown" or "driving while black". What the hell?

I once was blazing 80 through a 35. No ticket.

The one time I got a ticket was barely over speeding, the only time I've had a woman cop.

She said I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to give you a ticket.

In disbelief I said "No You DON'T!!!"

bw My kids about 8 and 5 at the time absolutely thought mommie getting a ticket was hilarious.

He's a lawyer with no respect for the law. He will be a democrat politician someday.

I've never gotten out of a moving violation, not that I've had that many. A State Trooper was semi-apologetic once when he found out I was active duty military, but said he was required to write it up since I was more than 10mph over the limit.

I've gotten out of several equipment and paperwork violations though. Once I was stopped with both my registration expired and license suspended. I thought for sure I was going to the pokey over the suspension, but somehow he got off that subject and concentrated on just the expired tag. To this day I still believe he was just having mercy on me. I wasn't about to ask any questions. :o

It's funny really. I've never gotten out of a moving violation either. Of course the situation has never come up as I obey the road rules to the letter in any place where there's even the remotest possibility of seeing another vehicle.

I have been pulled over twice in my life. Once when I was 17 years old. I was drunk and it was 2:30 in the morning. My friend was about to throw up so I was panicking. My mom would have kicked my ass if she puked in my car. He told me to say my ABC's. I sung them, yes I was that drunk. He let me go and told me to drive straight home...which I did. I was releaved that he let me go but now that I am an adult it pisses me off.  What if I had run into another car and killed someone?  The cop let me go with a warning (driving through a yellow light).

The 2nd time I was driving over the bridge from Lewisville to Denton (for those of you from Dallas). My mom and kids were in the car. I didn't have a license plate on the front of my car. My husband refuses to put it on the front of my car because he doesn't want to drill holes in the front bumper. I blamed my husband and the officer let me go with a warning. This was several cars ago, my husband has yet tp put a license plate on any of my cars. If I get pulled over again for it I am going to tell the cop to tmake the ticket out to my husband.

I’m so thankful that the DUmmies have taken the time to tell us some honest stories about their various law officer/traffic incidents. Since they have been so open and truthful I’ve decided to relate a real life incident that happened to me...

So Yoda, Obi Wan and myself took Luke’s land speeder out for a joyride one afternoon. I was driving and had it as wide open as it could get. We had travelled for several minutes when I heard the siren. I went ahead and pulled over. Before I could even get stopped good a Storm Trooper jumped out of the bushes. Then Yoda started yelling, “bacon I smell!!! Pig you must be!!!” and I thought we were screwed. Thankfully, before the Trooper could pull his blaster Obi Wan spoke up with a “I’m not giving a ticket to a white man” Jedi mind control thing and the Trooper just repeated what Obi had said and left. It was close one. I can’t imagine what would have happened if I would have been black or if Obi didn’t have Jedi powers.

Definitely the white thing -- it's a proven fact that police don't fall for jedi mind tricks.

Just because the mirror doesn't crack when you look at it does not mean that you're cute.


I did get out of a speeding ticket a few years back. The officer saw my uniform hanging up in the back and I guess he is a Marine because all I got when he looked at it was "Slow down Doc". Then he let me go.

I've been guilty as hell every time I've ever been stopped. A simple polite yes sir or no sir got me out of more tickets than anything else.....But DUmmies wouldn't know anything about being respectful or polite.

Same here.  I've noticed that placing my hands on the wheel, fingers extended upward as if the hands were flat--so the LEO could see them--and telling said LEO exactly where everything was before I went to get it (license, registration, insurance card)--works wonders.  Also, if it's at night, turning on the interior light is a good thing--that way, they can see in.  They have zero idea what they're going to find when they come up to the car.  The idea is to let the LEO know that you are gladly giving them control of the situation in the least stressful way possible (without saying those words).  Their blood pressure goes down a tad then, and they realize that you aren't an asshole.  That can go a long way.  Hell, I went through a NYSP radar trap once (the limit was 55 then) at 78, and had the car pulled over within 200 yards, waiting for the traffic to clear so he could come to me.  He damn near overshot me--I saw the headlights point up as he accelerated, then dip way down as he put the brake pedal to the floor.  His first words when he came up to me?  "I really like the way you pulled over."  He didn't write me for the speed--he wrote me for a headlight out, and gave me the card to be signed by a repair shop or an LEO saying that I had it fixed.  So, I skated.  But I wasn't an asshole--I was concilatory.

I once showed my man-boobs to a male police officer when he pulled me over for speeding...I got the ticket, took me 36 hours to get out of jail, another 48 hours to be released from the institution, AND four more days to "come down" from the medications!...

I can't wait to try that again!
