I think Walker and the Teabaggers in Congress have turned my Winger brother.
   
My brother is 64 years old. He wants to retire in September, when he turns 65, because he can't handle his job anymore. He has a very physically demanding job and his joints and muscles have been giving him hell for the last few years. He is, or was, a total right winger. He is a Fox news addict -- it's on continuously at his house. We have had countless arguments over politics. In fact, some of our arguments have become part of family lore.

Tonight I called him and he dropped the bombshell. In spite of Fox news, he is turning against the Repubs. He is stunned that they want to raise the retirement age. He can't believe they want to bust the unions, though I have told him this over the years. He's pissed enough that he thinks he'll probably vote Dem from now on. I was stunned. Not only that he finally sees the GOP for what it is, but he actually told ME that he is pissed at them. In spite of FOX news. I can't believe it.

If Walker and the GOP Congress have repelled my brother, they are in a world of hurt come 2012. I think the working class finally sees through the bs. Finally.

Ok I could be wrong but, isn't any talk of raising the retirement age supposed to be like 25 or 50 years from now?

I think they come up with stories like this one so that they can try and pretend that their crushing defeat in the next election isn't quite so imminent.

Also so that when it happens they can get together and mutter "Selected not elected" , diebold , Rove etc once again.

My step dad will be 80 in July. He still works by choice, doing dealer trades for a ford dealership.  He does it because if he didn't have anything to do he wouldn't know what to do with himself.   

My dad is 70 and still works, he has post polio syndrome and has had his knees replaced. He has terrible pain everyday yet still gets up every morning and goes to work.   

My husband won't ever "retire" either.

When people are living longer we have to raise the retirement age. 65 isn't old today.

Oh and the DUmmie post is total BS.

My grandfather is 86 and still works as a master electrician. I think a big reason is that my grandmother would kill him if he was around the house all day pestering her. :lmao:

Since the GOP immediately gacve up on job creation, and moved to social legislation...people have gone ballistic.

Then how do you explain my being 4 or 5 years old and my Democratic Mother carrying me down to Flatbush Ave. in Brooklyn NY to see Robert Kennedy and holding me up hoping he'd pick me up and me having a tantrum and refusing to cooperate? and how do you explain me being 5 years old and rooting for Nixon? and me rooting for Reagan in 76 and crying in 80 because I wasn't old enough to vote for Reagan? and being excited turning 18 and registering as a Republican? and me happily voting for Reagan in 84? and Fox News wasn't around at that time nor was Rush, so who was to blame all those years?

I got you beat BG, I lived in NOVA when Carter was elected.  The two years I lived there, after he was elected, I refused to look at the White House, because I was afraid it had turned into a peanut.  You see, I got an autographed picture of Gerald Ford with a class project.  I also refused to eat peanut butter.  I still don't.   :-)

Seriously, if your children are "going hungry" then you aren't doing even a half-assed job as a parent, even as a free-loader.  They have programs for that.  You only have to swing dinner, as the government school will handle the rest.  Foodstamps, courtesy of the rest of us, have you covered.  Nobody's buying this sob-story anymore.

How many times I have heard this lament kids are going hungry---from parents that are smoking name brand cigs. and have to feed the kids dry cereal with water as they had to spend the milk money on a pack of  high priced smokes.???????

If the kids are hungry does it not stand to reason that the parent or parents would be twice as hungry having given up half of the their food for the kids.???  One would think the parents of hungry kids would be very undernourished themselves not 50-100 pounds over weight.

Can there in anyway be a connection between over weight kids and their daily intake of high carbohydrates from Oodles of Noodles, Ramen and pasta, few fruits or vegetables?????

ARGGGGG, when I hear someone say their child is a pickie eater, I am surprised that I do not get a punch in my nose to my reply, "  keep the kids on bread and water for 2 days, your kids will then eat anything.""    One may be surprised to find kids begin to hoard Brussels sprouts and parsnips under their bed just in case you need to put them back on the bread and water.
