Got earthquakes? You need unions.

From the Just When You Think They Couldn't Go Any Lower files:

DUmmy HEyHEY is tired of the Japan disaster knocking the unions off the front page, so he finds a way to connect the two.

I wonder how many rescue and clean-up workers in Japan are union...

And have proper training because they're union, have the equipment needed to do the job because they're union, are willing to put themselves in danger because they're union....etc.

I wager a good deal. I used to work as a municipal employee. We had everything on hand for stuff like this (within reason, we didn't own a helicopter or anything) but we had emergency procedures in place, attack plans, a lot of stuff a private contractor never would have thought about cause nobody would have made them think about it.

If I'm in a place like Miyagi prefecture, I certainly would feel better knowing an established, well-oiled public union was in charge of my rescue as opposed to some private company that got the contract by being cheap, which is because it cuts corners.

Of course, if you're discovered by a unionized water recovery team, and you're being crushed by a fallen tree, you'll just have to wait until they call in a unionized tree rescue team. And even then, it better be the right species of tree.

WTF?

Yeah, cause they did so well here, the Damn gubmint had to bail out the auto industry and give it to them, so O'bummer could pay 'em back for the cash they DUmped in his pocket! ****in' idiot!

I swear I can hear a loon out on the lake, and I'm a mile and a half away!

If American Unions had anything to do with this, we'd have a meltdown while they waited for the pipe fitter to hook the ****in' plumbing back up!

A union would pick this time to strike. Better meet their needs or else.

Exactly 180 degrees from real world fact.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Do they still get a 15 minute break every 2 hours?
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

I'm at work for 4 1/2 hours before my first break.

That may be true for some places, but there have been weeks where I've had more overtime than straight time, even including working 36 hours straight .

My guess would be unless it is in their union contract, the number would be zero.

The ones that don't work overtime are outnumber by those that do.  Being a repair/service industry means keeping customers happy, and getting the work done when they want it done.

Sorry, no disrespect intended, but I find it has been the opposite in the construction industry if they didn't have the union to back them up. Those guys were damn near useless!

When they shut down Hanford, we got an influx of union labor. I can count on one hand how many of those guys ever volunteered for overtime!

We repair electric motors, but part of the company also does construction/maintenance electrical work. We're under the IBEW and they have allowed workers to cross several picket lines at major companies here. This union is pretty much worthless, and is only there to suck up dues. They do very little for the workers.

My electricians were of a different breed. As they were subs, they pretty much had free rein. After all, ya can't cover a wall unless "Sparky's" done! Same thing with the fire sprinkler guys.

I have to say those guys got the job done! Sometimes, I didn't work as many hours as they did, but they were subs and not really under my control, other than scheduling and progress deadlines.

If they started costin' me money in penalties, shit was goin' to hit the fan! I can only recall a few times they ever had to be leaned on, and ended up bustin' their ass in order to get their shit done on time!

Carpenters, welders, and laborers on the other hand...............

I hope none. For if they were, the citizens (VICTIMS) would be sitting huddled in blankets in the street starving-freezing, while the union EMPLOYEES (not workers) were eating doughnuts and drinking hot coffee in their mandatory 2 hour-long morning "safety meeting" discussing how their employer (usually the tax-payer) is the personification of all things evil. Then they retire to their mandatory under-stair-well hiding area for their daily 4 hour hangover-relieving nap.
Seen it 100's of times...

Union EMPLOYEES are the laziest, most un-skilled labor-slugs in the world.

Additionally, union employees are the DIRECT cause of American jobs beg sent overseas.

Union Mafioso's - from the steward to the Mafioso head boss should be brought up on charges under the RICO Act, prosecuted, and jailed. Not in paradise either...jailed in a 6 X 9 foot cell with a 400Lbs black child molester whom calls him "The Mrs."
