Buried in this thread, where once again the Mensa members of DU are bitching about Rush, I found this little gem,

to operate despite how the local citizenry in Fukushima was opposing it.

Back in 2006, the Bush Administration sent in American officials to "re-vitalize" the Japanese economy with the use of --

You guessed it! Nuclear power.

The mayor of Fukushima, Mr Sato, he was dead set against having nuclear power. He wanted the nuclear power plants to be decommissioned. He wanted the entire prefecture to go into alternate energy production, with a wind/solar combination. (Fukusima has enough wind energy, being so close to the sea, that it would have worked out quite well.)

Instead of this mayor making an impact and changing this, which by the way was supported by his citizenry, some trumped-up charges of his accepting bribes came into play.

He was ousted from his office, and a different man, who was very pro-nuclear energy, was installed in his place.

The nuclear industry went full steam ahead. These past few days, you can see the consequences of that disastrous turn of events.

And of course, the charges against Mr Sato were proven erroneous, but the whole purpose was simply to get him out of the way.

(None of this would not have happened if the trumped up charges had not been given enough power by the more powerful governmental authorities, to take Mr Sato down.)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x654498

I knew somehow the mental giants at DU would figure out some way to blame all this on Bush.
I'm just surprised it took so long.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Off the top of my head guess for the size of the wind farm to replace the nuclear plant (4,000 MW) would be around 40,000 windmills and tens of miles long. Wind energy's inherent unreliability would mean that a conventional power plant of equal size would be on idle or on the entire time.

the alternative to Coal, oil, natgas, and nuclear would necessarily make prices skyrocket and draconian (1 in 24 type) rationing.  Alternative energy is quite a pipe dream.

I can only see one way that wind and solar could ever be effective.  Everyone would have to have huge storage batteries to use during the times when wind and solar failed.

It is so unreliable that there would be days, maybe weeks, where you would never get your batteries topped off. the really bad thing about these sources is that they fail when you need them most in cold temperatures and bad weather. Sometimes the wind mills will use power not generate it because they have to be kept at a minimum temperature or bearings die...see Great Britain winter 2010/11. Solar has low incident radiation angles, less sun, and radiation blockage from snow and rain.

Of course there are great ways to supplement power needs with solar like radiant heating but PV is a pure money whirlpool.

So the Japanese are children and can't be responsible for whatever work is done in their country regardless of which administration is in power when the work is done? And why would GE do anything with/for the Bush administration? They make the most left wing light bulbs on the planet, just look how damn screwy they are.

Don't forget the converter to change it to AC! One the size to run a fridge, forget anything else in the damn house, would cost around a grand!

Then Mr. Miyagi showed up with Daniel-san. They had a hard time of it and all with Mr. Sato's nephew and the bad blood between Mr Sato and Mr Miyagi over a lovely lady. Of course Daniel-san found a lovely lady of his own. But it was all worked out after the big fight at the festival and everyone but Mr Sato's nephew lived happily ever after.

Hey DUmbasses, Rush was only demonstrating how unbelievably OUT OF TOUCH leftist idiots like you and Diane Sawyer are. They've gone through a disaster and that moonbatic bitch is talking about how well they're recycling.

FOAD, DUmpmonkies. No, literally, FOAD. You idiots add nothing to society. As for Truedelphi, do a little research on the facilities, idiot.
