5 hr energy
« on: March 13, 2011, 09:25:40 AM »
I have been hit by the no energy bug. I take iron and b6 supercomplex already and eat pretty healthy. I really only drink diet drinks but have so all my life.

I was thinking of this 5 hr energy because they say it's all natural. Does anyone have experience with it good or bad? Please share before I go buy a case of it from Costco

I see it all the time in the stores but have never tried any of those products, just from googling it seems the main ingredient is caffeine. Those energy drinks kind of scare me though.

I take that stuff only when I'm driving long distances. With me, I invariably get sleepy about an hour into such a drive and I just can't shake it off like I could when I was younger.

I pop one of these babies (they have no sugar, btw), and it works very, very well. I stop yawning, my eyes stop watering, and I'm actually paying attention to that moron next to me at 70 mph while she's texting her ****ing boyfriend.  :whatever:

I had my first experience with the 5-hour energy stuff just the other day. I've been having major sleep issues, and had only slept about an hour the night before, so I got some on my way to work on Friday.

I have to say, they worked for me. I didn't notice any jitters, or hyperactivity, only some slight "hot flashes" throughout the day, and never really experienced any kind of "crash" either. Three of 'em kept me going and functioning throughout the day at work. I do question the 5-hour part though...for me, it was 3 hrs tops.

I've tried it and had a little success in its use. However, I take so many meds just to get to sleep that it's beyond ridiculous.

On a positive note, I actually slept for FIVE straight hours last night!!!

Got to bed at 1:30 a.m. and the freakin' dog got me up at 4:30. I was not happy.

I used that energy drink at work when my legs were about to give out after 9-10 hours standing on concrete.   Did it help, I still do not know.

What for instance is   " all natural""?????

Just get a few bottles and experiment on how and when you take it, do you actually feel pepped up or do you expect to get a boost and  because of your expectations  to actually feel better.???

All this stuff on the market to make you healthy, strong and invigorated, if it really worked Doctors themselves would be guzzling the stuff. The military would be handing it out by the gallon to our troops.   Everyone in sports and Olympic training would have cases upon cases of this product in their training bags, cars and vans.

Those diet drinks you spoke of have some non natural things in them, try Ice water and a bit of lemon or orange slice instead.  No harm giving this energy drink a try but don't expect to get up in the morning feeling like you did at 10 years of age.

What works for me -- which I absolutely swear by, is L-theanine (you have to purchase the kind that has Suntheanine on the bottle - I get it at Whole Foods).  I take the pill form because I am not a fan of straight green tea (although I do love the new Canada Dry diet gingerale with green tea).

I never sleep and live on coffee (child with autism, sleep eludes him).   This stuff totally calms me (herbal valium -- I am relaxed and stress just rolls off me), but keeps me super alert.    I honestly don't know what I would do without it.

If you like the taste of green tea then definitely go that route (Starbucks has a pretty decent green tea latte, if you can get past the color -- which is puke green, it doesn't taste bad).  However, I take these pills twice a day and it really has changed my life.

I use it on long trips. YES, it works. It will keep you alert, especially when driving through country with nothing to look at. Its a life saver in that respect.

at work I will use them when I have a bad night. No heart palps, not jitters. In my experience its fine.

Just remember with any caffeine product...you will run to the restroom a bit more, but thats a small price to pay in my book.

I may have to give this a try myself.  My only concern would be that it would keep me awake at night, on those rare occassions anymore that I "can" sleep.

I've never tried any of them, but I know my son drank a lot of RedBull when he was in the Navy.

There has been quite a bit about them on the news here lately. They have caused some serious health problems, even death.

Not that you are going to do it, but a couple of kids have died because of mixing RedBull or the 5hr stuff with alcohol. Because of the high caffeine amount, kids are mixing them with alcohol, and the caffeine masks the fact that the drinker is flat-out sloshed. They think they are fairly sober and continue to drink. They either get incredibly sick from alcohol poisoning or get into a car and drive.

They are also really bad for heart and blood pressure.

You might want to google the effects and hazards of caffeine energy drinks.

I have been a pop drinker all my adult life, drinking several per day. I switched to Diet Coke, at least 25 years ago, not long after it came out. I switched to caffeine free ( and gave up real tea, too  :bawl: ) , about 15 yrs ago, because of fibrocystic breast disease.

Since July, except for maybe 1 or 2 per WEEK - usually Sprite Zero - I quit pop entirely. I am, however, seriously addicted to "fizzy" water. Walmart has one that 98cents/2 liter. No calories, no caffeine, no sodium. Isn't doing a damn thing for my sleep patterns, but it's been great for my skin.  :-)  It does increase the pee frequency though, which I guess could be a problem at work, depending on your job.   :whistling:

I could not give up chocolate. If I had to....might just as well go ahead and shoot me, cause you'll want to within days...so avoid the misery we would both be in.  :-)

I had problems after lunch at work, where I'd come awfully close to nodding off at my desk.  One day I said, "That's not going to happen today," and I went down to the local Rite Aid and got a bottle of the stuff.  Read the directions and it says to drink half, but if you want mre of an effect to drink the whole bottle.  So, I did, at 1 PM . . .

. . . as I lay awake in bed that night, I looked up at the time that the atomic clock had put on the ceiling . . . 11:43 and I thought to myself, "I'm at 50,000 feet and I don't think I'm losing altitude anytime soon."  I don't recall when my eyes closed for the night, but it wasn't anytime soon.

I use it when I get the night shift. I am on a rotating schedule and 56 years old so its tough to switch gears like that. My job also requires alot of driving so I need to be sharp. This stuff and a Mountain Dew works for me.
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

former, I may give this a try. Thanks for posting this! I too have an autsie and, at best, he will sleep from about 1030 until 3 and then he wants to find my bed to sleep in. Some nights I just end up sleeping downstairs on the chair so he doesn't wake me up(most nights, he seems to just want to sleep in my bed whether I'm there or not and that's a step up from him looking for me, or when his dad lived with us, him in the middle of the night). But, yes it makes for a tired day the next day. I have to get up for work at 430 am so this sucks.

Its good I have used it before. If you the to avoid the jitters and bouncing off the walls like a two year old having a sugar rush then 5 hour is for you. But I like Monster, and Redbull since they wake me up before I even finish the can.
