Once again, the Repubs are "out-framing" the Democrats...

Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 11:11 AM by kentuck
Those nasty unions are taking money from middle-class taxpayers, they say. And that is all many Republicans need to hear.

What is the Democratic response? What should it be?

Personally, I think teaching children is one of the best professions a person can enter. Perhaps these "union haters" think the country would be better off without teachers? Or is it that they believe they would be better off without teachers that belong to a union?

Teachers are not paid huge sums of money. Public education is something the American people agreed upon a long time ago. It is not a recent phenomenon.

The money that teachers are paid is theirs to do with what they wish. If they choose to join a union so their voices and concerns can be heard, that is their right and their choice. Who are these folks that would deny them that right?

I would like to hear a different response from the Democratic side than simply playing defense.

Well Mr Kentuck when we have truth on our side we don't need to worry about framing the debate. facts speak on their own. Your side however has to resort to changing the subject and framing the debate on a false premise instead of backing up your opinions with fact. For example when we say Obama's policies are bad for the country, you never wow us with your economic wisdom and tell us that he isn't and why. No you just say we hate black people. That way there is no debate on the economic policies the whole argument turns out to be over whether we hate black people or not.

2. Governor Walker gets paid with taxpayer dollars...

..and I would prefer my tax-dollars go to any teacher in the state of Wisconsin than to Governor Walker.

Education is just as valuable to our economy as roads and bridges. When people buy homes in a new community, the first thing they look for is a good public school to send their children. That is of utmost importance to them.

It is a disgrace the way these Republicans badmouth public education and the school teachers whom we depend upon to educate our children. None of these politicians deserve to receive one penny of taxpayer monies, in my opinion.

Do you know why people "badmouth" public education?
It's not because we are hater bigot, homophobes, it's because of the results of public education. Kids are learning to put a rubber on a cucumber, but aren't learning math. Self esteem is being taught as something that is a right not something to be earned by doing something. So yes there is a problem with public education and it's not that we don't throw enough money into it. We also support the good teachers who are still trying to teach the kids 2+2 = 4 no matter how you feel about it.

3. Democrats usually allow Republicans to define them, make up definitions for the terms of the debate,

then ultimately control the debate, keeping Democrats continually on defense and having to explain themselves.

talk about projection.

Umm, I'm either considered middle class or lower middle class, I don't need anyone to tell me about unions taking my money, my tax increases every year are what tells me the unions are taking my money.

BTW, judging by the insane ranting posts at DU I think we really are winning this argument against the unions.

The WI publik skool system attains a 36% success rate on English and a 34% on math.

Even grading on a curve that is an F--. Clearly we need to pay more for such wonderful performance.

When a lib says that money is theirs, they can do what they want with it, I disregard that, knowing full well none of them believe that.

Learning begins at home, children do not need to be sent to a "school" (aka Government Indoctrination Center) to learn.
Where is it written that teachers HAVE to be union, and where does it state union teachers are SUPERIOR to non-union ones?

Education, yes.  Unions, HELL NO!

So is the money I earn, but try telling that to Lord Zero, Dimrats, and the IRS.

But if they are FORCED to join a union, that's OK, too?

Yeah, me too.  This whole "It's all Bush's Faulttm" shit is getting on my nerves.
