Important, pls read this: Martial Law in Michigan and Republicans’ End Game   Updated at 2:57 PM

from PoliticsUSA

While we were venting our outrage at shenanigans in Wisconsin politics, in fact while Republicans were planning last night’s attempted coup, the Michigan state legislature quietly passed a bill giving the Governor of Michigan martial control over the state. Except instead of using actual military, the Governor is more likely to use private security. But make no mistake–rights would be suspended.

Here’s how it works:

The governor, on his own initiative, can declare an economic emergency in any town and appoint an administrator. The administrator can be any person, including a corporate person.

The administrator has the power to do anything in the name of economic stability, including void contracts, void collective bargaining agreements, dissolve the town council, dissolve the school board, fire anyone including elected officials, hire private security, unincorporate the town, and sell off public property.

_______________

Please read the whole article, it's not long. This is so much more dangerous than what's been reported so far.

What ensues is much hooting, howling and poo-flinging with all of it based on morbid fantasies of fascism.

What none of them has the intellectual or moral capacity to acknowledge is the fact that none of the provisions effect PRIVATE citizens. The entire bill presumes a local government has recklessly bought assets or forged contracts.

If a city signs a multi-year contract with a police union then it comes to light that the contract will be instrumental in leading to the insolvency of the city those who signed the contract are probably getting big kickbacks from the police union. That means those who signed the contract would rather drive their city into ruin than void the contract and the contracts straitjacket subsequent administrations so the people cannot vote for relief from bad policies. It also means the police may illegally strike leaving the public at the mercy of criminals.

Not only can this happen, Madison, Wisconsin is proof that local governments do recklessly interfere in state affairs. Detroit proves just how corrupt and ruinous local governments can become. I can bring over a dozen threads of you assholes begging the cops to disobey their oaths over politics you do not approve of.

Please tell us DUmbasses: which fascist regime ever undercut its own police force instead of bribe them with more public money?

What fascist regime ever demanded the right to sell-off public property?

What provisions in this law truncate the rights of private citizens/entities?

Yet, you chant and clap when Chavez does this to private citizens.

You keep on screaming fascism until one of you acts on it. We'll be waiting.

That was Bell Kalifornia. The Mayor was knocking down $800k/yr.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Thanks for the breath of sanity, SSB.  Makes sense to me.  Bell, California says it all.
