This is plain stupid, although I guess the Congress may as well listen to the Sesame Street critters after inviting Steve Colbert up to testify last year. :mental:

From Sen. Jim DeMint's blog:

It’s time to draw a clear distinction between the government and entertainment. Democrats shouldn’t cast our children’s most beloved creatures as characters for their big-government, big-spending causes.

Publicly funded media simply has no place in our modern, tech-savvy society. CPB was created by the 1967 Public Broadcasting Act to "facilitate the development of public telecommunications." Only a handful of television channels existed. More than 30 years later, Americans have thousands of choices in news, entertainment and educational programming provided by innumerable television, radio and Web outlets.

Shows like Sesame Street are multi-million dollar enterprises capable of thriving in the private market. According to the 990 tax form all nonprofits are required to file, Sesame Workshop President and CEO Gary Knell received $956,513 -- nearly a million dollars -- in compensation in 2008. And, from 2003 to 2006, "Sesame Street" made more than $211 million from toy and consumer product sales.

Well, I got one Senator I like.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Kyl and McCain are pretty good, especially Kyl.  But, he's not running again. :(

On a related note concerning publicly funded junk......anybody catch Harry Reid on the TV, making a speech imploring for the public funding of "Cowboy Poetry?"  If we don't fund this, then it won't be available for 10's of thousands of people!!!!!!1111!!!!!!

Funniest damn thing I ever heard.  Almost like a parody, but he doesn't realize it.

Pssst Harry, if it's so awesome, people will buy tickets.

Actually, brain dead dingy Harry said:

"Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist."

Is he talking about some kind of birth control with cowboy poetry, or what the hell is he actually talking about?

One year some friends bought tickets for us so they could show us how great cowboy poetry is.  In fact, IIRC Sierra Vista just finished up its annual cowboy poetry show.
All I can say is that, while hubby enjoyed the show, he wasn't gonna get lucky that night based on how wonderful the poetry was. :-)  I know lots of you would/do like it, but it's not my cup of tea.

Coincidentally, Rush just now was mocking Dingy Harry for wanting to continue subsidizing cowboy poetry.

Tried 'em once, and couldn't stand the idea, probably based on the critter being served up on the plate. :puke:

I thought they tasted about the same.  Good, though.
