Has the IRS threatened to take your home for small tax debts (under 10K)? Goodbye from Mimosa.

Edited on Tue Mar-01-11 01:27 AM by Mimosa
This might well be my last post on Democratic Underground. regard this as my 'goodbye' post, although I don't want to go. :( *crying*

I am scared the gov will get mad because I post the wrong things. I have reason to believe this.

My partner and I usually bring in under 50K a year but health care out of pocket expenses including premiums and Rxs cost us well over 12K. Being self employed, paying for helth insurance premiums as well as trying to keep up with self-employed FICA mean we fall behind *all the time*.

Usually we can make payment deals with the IRS. But lately they are saying NO. We owe 8K for taxes. Sale of our condo in this down market might not reap them that 8K. Mortgage might be underwater. But the IRS TODAY sent a letter stating they will file to take away our unpaid for condo. We bought it 4.5 years ago. The value has gone down. But the fear of losing my roof and home is scaring me to death. let me stress again that I am in the under 50K income level and am approaching age 60.

So the federal government is threatening to take away our home because my partner and I can't afford to keep paying 12K a year for health insurance premiums and also pay quarterly taxes. There is no way to pay health insurance premiums and taxes at the same time. We are broke.

But the IRS rep said they send out the 'we will file to foreclose on your house' letters all the time. She said they do it to 'get attention'.

I'm scared. I'm very scared, and sick. I'm not on SSI. I have no means. My partner works 12 hours a day to pay our bills. Tthis might be near my last post on D.U.. :(

The government needs big money for the continuing wars. They don't seem to be going after it from the rich people who profit from wars.

But, I'm an idiot. I'm low hanging fruit. They've scared me. I think they know I post here and say all the wrong things. I think the intimidation factor is playing out.

I don't want to leave D.U. ever. But I know i have posted all the wrong things. *crying*

You get this bullshit (even if 100% factual it is still bullshit)?

What you are seeing here is:

1) boohoo! We're gay and society treats those who are different differently. If only we could file as married.

2) boohoo! We don't have national health single-payer care.

And yet...and yet...

...for all the idiotic advice and even more idiotic *hugs* not one DUmbass has pointed out that health care is deductible...because there is no reason to ruin a good pity party that can be used to bash the opposition. If they deducted their itemized costs they would be making less than $38,000 by its own reckoning.

First, they told me if I voted for McCain that the IRS would take people's homes and kick them out on the street....

Schedule SE is a very evil form. There is no deductions it was a straight 15.3% FICA and 2.9% medicare. However under the tax hike known as Obama HellCare medicare is now 4.5%. So that is 18.2% off your income up to $107,000. Employees only pay half and your employer pays half, which could be going to the employee but goes to Big Government.

I'll assume that the $50K is the net profit from Sched C and his premiums are $12k/year.
50K*.182 = $9100 (which you can deduct 50% of $4500).
$50000-4500-12000=$33500
Stick with the standard deduction of $5700 and exemption of $3650 and your adjusted gross income is $24,150.
Income tax as a single filer is $3201
TOTAL PAID TO BIG GOVERNMENT IS $9100+$3201= $12301.
Take home without state and city income taxes is $37,699 or netting $725/week.
After taking out insurance $37,699-$12,000=$25,699 or $494/week net.

That does not include the 12hr/day that it's partner works. Sounds to me like someone made a bad decision in buying an overpriced condo and a loan that was unsustainable or a bouncy and a bad one at that.

DUmmies lie, DUmmies lie all the time.

Heaven forbid the 'fag' get a job and help out. What did they do, buy a condo when congress made the banks loan money to asshats like this that didn't have a prayer in payin' it back? Boo ****in' Hoo! It says it's "partner" is "self employed". What the hell does that mean? If you are responsible for your own taxes, aren't ya supposed to put enough away in order to pay said taxes?

One other thing, did this asshat ever hear of the "Head of Household" filing status? It amounts to the same as married filing jointly. The "Head" of the house uses the slacker, who does nothing, as a dependent!

Firstly -- Sounds like the primitives bought more home than they could afford.

Secondly -- The primitive should be able to find at least a part-time job as a register jockey at Walmart.Oh wait, they hate Walmart..Nevermind.

Thirdly -- Why is the primitive wasting it's time whining about it on DU ? Nearly any advice a primitive gives is bad advice -- save for how to turn almost any object into a bong, and where to go to score something good to use with said bong..

Finally -- If the primitive is hoping to stir up his own fund drive on DU, Skins will shut that down instantly. One does not interfere with skin's income and gets away with it.

There are a lot of reasons for primitives to like Walmart - but they view it with contempt since the company is based out of Arkansas. - They look down on it as a 'redneck' chain store.Walmart is also non union. Anyway, Primitives make sites LIKE THIS ONE to show the world how much better they are than the average Walmart shopper..

No way do we want unions!!! Many associates as it is can't afford day to day living to have to pay union dues(especially the part timers) which is the bulk of Walmart Associates. We have many people from all walks of life come to Walmart. Plus , I don't know if many retail giants that are unionized. Though I have heard that some Walmarts are unionized, don't know how true that is however.....

Ok. Something seems fishy here DUmmie. In sentence one, you say that you and your partner work for under 50K a year. Then in the last sentence, you say that your partner works 12 hours a day to pay the bills.
So, Mimosa, do you work or don't you? Me thinks your post deserves NO BONG!!

If I was in decent health I think I'd find a way to lower my health care premiums and use that extra money to the IRS. I'd either get less coverage or maybe just get catastrophic coverage. I might even do without it for a bit if that's what it took.

I bet they waited til the IRS had threatened them a number of times before they actually called them. We owed one year and couldn't pay it all at once. They were great to work with. They set up a payment plan we could afford and gave us a very low interest rate.
