Alright.  I'm working on a worksheet and need some math help.  Who's up to help me.  I can't remember how this is done.

Yup, totally serious.  I have a formula I'm working on to fill out a work sheet and I don't know if I'm doing it right.  It's been too long.

Here's the Formula;

UARL (gallons)= (5.41Lm + 0.15Nc) x p

I don't remember if I'm supposed to multiply 5.41 by Lm then multiply .15 by Nc then add those together and multiply by p ...

It's probably really easy but I'm drawing a blank.

I'm mathematically challenged too, but if I remember the Order of Operations (might wanna Google that to make sure because this appears to me to be the issue, along with putting the parentheses in the right place in your formula), multiplication before addition/subtraction; then divide.

I'm pretty sure Sparky can help with this but that may help you get started.

I believe you have it right on.  That seems right to me, however, my algebra classes were right after lunch, and I had off campus lunch, so I don't remember much of them.   :-)

If he were to put that formula in an Excel worksheet, though, the parentheses and the brackets drive me nuts - if you get it wrong, all hell breaks loose.

I was slightly off on my own Order of Ops, but Tots has a great link to brush up on.

Ok, I finally got called back by the TWDB (Texas Water Development Board) ... that's who this worksheet is for.

I was right.  I was doing it correctly and it was giving me a number that was unrealistic.  Here's the deal;

This is a government form and (FOR ANY DUMMIES LURKING PAY ATTENTION) they didn't give me the whole formula!

Compare the formula I gave above to what I was just told on the phone;

(5.41Lm x 365 x p) + (.15Nc x 365 x p) / 1,000,000 = UARL

To top it off that section of the worksheet doesn't apply to our system because we don't have enough connections.

 :banghead:

On the plus side ... the guy who called me back was apologetic and helpful.

I know.  I called the TWDB and left a message.  When he called me back and I told him what I was working on he found the page where the formula is and he starts reading it off.  I told him the number I was coming up with and he said "No, that can't be right."  After he looked at it for a bit he said "Ok, use this formula", I asked him where he got that and he told me he was getting it out of another book.   :banghead:

When I ran those formulas I got a completely different number ... imagine that.  He said they want you to do it online because it does the computations for you but I do them by hand then fill in the blanks online.

Now I can't get on the site where I'm supposed to fill in the form.  Argh.
