"Thank You For Your Service"....Give me a break! Army/Navy/AirForce/Marines why in the world join?

People who join the service are making a CHOICE.

Why in the world would somebody choose to be trained to kill other people?

(Don't give me the 'economic necessity' or "eduction" line...there are plenty of poor people of conscience who don't even consider it an option...me included)

("Glory","Brotherhood","Tradition","Honor", "Duty", "Defending Freedom"...terms twisted to serve recruitment.)

Instead of "Thank you for your service" I'd rather be saying "thank you" for choosing to do something with your life that does not involve being called on to kill.

Lives destroyed (yours and theirs), resources depleted that could go far to helping many. True sacrifice for others should not be flesh or sanity

If you are compelled to join a group to serve others join one that doesn't require that you become a cog in a machine designed to kill.

Armies of doctors, engineers, teachers, etc...YES. Now your talking real Honor, Brotherhood, Duty, and Glory. Bring them on and increase my taxes to pay for them.

Literal armies designed to kill and destroy that include doctors, engineers, teachers, etc...No Thank You! It's self defeating, wasteful, and immoral.

You are not "serving" me by being trained to kill in my name (though thinking so may sooth your conscience). Think of who one really "Serves" when joining the service...it ain't the little guy.

You do what you do out of your own personal choice.

Thank You (who have not joined the "services") For Your Service.

If your convictions are so strong, masmdu, then just place your neck upon the lunette while the Muslim hordes take your head, simply because you are an infidel, since you have chosen the path of non-resistance. They're only twisted because you don't have enough integrity to understand. It isn't blindness, stupidity, or willingness to kil but a deep love of their country and their family and their fellow man. It's a very special person that willingly chooses to serve their country during a time of war. Even hatefilled DUmmies need defending whether they appreciate it or not.

Generally, when one is discussing a topic such as U.S. foreign policy, it's a bad idea to immediately lump everyone in Washington, D.C. under the label of "terrorists". It's a bit extreme and even though there are some legitimate points espoused by the likes of Chomsky, just saying something like that makes me automatically take you less seriously.

Yeah, you go ahead and believe the other morons at DU, jackass. CC, as small as it is, has more veterans, retired, or active duty than that entire ****ing cesspool known as the Dump. I would venture to say Free Republic has much, much more. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to look at the numbers and determine that 70-80% of the people in the military are conservative.

Or perhaps you'd like to give me a list of stable countries which do not have, or have allies that have, a strong military?

If you paid taxes over the last five years, you're part of the machine too. You're just the part that thinks it's better than other parts because it's not "trained to kill" while being just as culpable to being "part of the machine" as any other part.
