BECK rights
« on: February 23, 2011, 08:27:02 PM »
Hi,

Just got the following from a friend.  Not sure if it is true, but sure hope so.

Regards,

The current crisis in Wisconsin brings to mind the results of a 1988 Supreme Court decision in the matter of Communication Workers of America v. Beck. “Beck” started when a CWA worker named Harry Beck demanded his dues money back because the CWA was using it to fund the campaigns of liberal Democrats and as a conservative Beck had had enough.

After the usual protracted period of appeals the case worked its way up to the Supreme Court and was decided in favor of Beck and his co-defendants.

What “Beck” Said and Why It’s Important Today

The decision established what are now known as “Beck rights” for all American workers.  Essentially it said a union worker who objects to having his/her dues used for purposes he/she disapproves of can no longer be forced to pay that part of any  dues not specifically designated for actual union related purposes.  Only the dues fees actually necessary to provide bargaining services and administer benefits can be collected by unions.  In short, unions can no longer collect union dues for anti American causes without the expressed permission of the member.

Unfortunately, almost as soon as the decision was handed down the media, Democrats and feckless collaborating Republicans conspired to make believe it never happened. Even under both Bush 41 and 43, “Beck” became nothing more than a grease stained sign at most work places if one appeared at all.

By February 1995, Clinton quietly rescinded a Bush-41 Executive Order requiring all federal contractors to post a “Beck Notice.” Since then most of the time Beck enforcement has had more to do with minor fines handed out for not displaying a Beck Rights than (gasp!) actually enforcing the decision.

The Time is Right

Obviously when the Republicans regained control of the House in 1994 they had no stomach for fighting to see that Beck was enforced. That was then, however, and this is now. We have beaten back Card Check and we have the unions on the run. Now is the time to cripple them with a “reverse” Card Check allowing individuals to opt out of union membership altogether. Doing this and pressing the enforcement of workers’ Beck Rights can break the strangle hold of Big Labor on our economy. For the sake of our nation let’s hope Wisconsin’s Republicans do just this.

I posted this video last night in another thread, this teacher was a guest on Fox last night.

The Libtard Legion senses that the time is right and rife to put on a surge for their agenda and I'm all for it. Give a fool enough rope...

Precedents in law are everything. We will emerge from the current Obama/Holder rush to take this nation off of a cliff and bring a sea change ushering in wholesale socialism, with the American people seeing it for what it is. NO-vember 2010 bore that out. The sudden fancy footwork from the current regime in the few months since with an at times comical attempt (Reagan/Obama imagery) to reinvent the Obama winning image bares that out. Now we see them reacting to events occurring in states, showing they no longer frame the debate but are put at odds to react to it. This is the direct result of a President who has spent more than all previous Presidents combined, all the way back to George Washington. Hint- maybe a bucket brigade throwing gas on a house fire is not the answer.

An incoming President can blame his predecessor for the current troubles for only so long. Ultimately, and soon, he must flesh out the suit he dons each day and lead, convincingly.

We are in a massive state of shit in this economy. Soetoro's cabinet reads like a who's who of Wall Street, despite his leftist media support that he is the golden boy with all the answers, his crafted rhetoric patronizes those who see ever increasing burdens put upon their paychecks by government. This the union shriekers in the streets at Madison deny, and seek to portray themselves upon the national stage in their 15 minutes of glory like a starving artist's sale, what a bargain we give the tax payers, how little we get. We are victims.
These teachers themselves, a third of them, send their kids to private schools. Hypocrites? Like pigs at the trough, all they want is more, more ,more. Quite frankly they see themselves as an upper class insulated enclave and dare anybody to mess with them, they have carved out a special existence beyond the law that the unwashed masses have to put up with, but not them -their tribe on the survivor island of life gets a fix for the win- their long fought for extrajudicial Utopia.

The bottom line is the economy -Obama's economy- is in the toilet and the dollar is doing the dead guppy float, with oil going off the charts, but **** everybody else, I am UNION, I am BETTER than YOU and I get special treatment! They don't give a flying squirrel if their neighbor is starving.

Whatever. The bottom line will become quite clear -and decisive- come NO-vember 2012.

America's courts, post Obama will be very busy indeed. This is of course if he serves out his full term. If not, the mess will be even bigger.

Calling for unions to enforce Beck would indeed be a wonderful thing.  Make them disclose yearly the sources and uses of all dues then enforce the Beck Opt out decision. Do not allow automatic union deductions.  Why should a company be forced to pay the accounting fees for an adversarial relationship?   Ummmmmmm Ummmmmmm Ummm.  That would be wonderful.  :yahoo:
