What is your ancestral origin/ethnicity?
« on: February 22, 2011, 03:58:42 PM »
Just curious to see what the melting pot here is comprised of.   I understand that we are mostly all Americans -- however, where did your ancestors come from?

My mom is 100% french Canadian (God help me).  My dad was 50% Irish and 50% English.

I'm Welsh on both sides of the family.  My grandmother came over as a WWII war bride.  The rest were generations ago.

I'm a hodge podge. One great grandmother was Welsh, one great grandfather was Scottish, and one great grandfather was German.  The rest were mostly English, with some Irish, and one French Duke that fled the French Revolution.  I've had ancestors on American soil since before the American Revolution so a little bits of various nationalities seem to have been mixed in along the way.

My real life last name doesn't reflect my ancestry, but I'm about 75% German or more accurately, Northern European. There's a little French, Scot, English & Coon Ass in there, too.

My peeps have all been here long enough to fight the Revolution and both sides of the War Between the States.

Primarily Scottish, with a scootch of English, Welsh, and Irish.  My Mom's Dad and my Dad's Dad's families were both traced back to the same castle in Scotland, where apparently, both clans fought over it for years.  I find that sad, poetic and hilarious at the same time.

My dad's parents came over from Germany between 1900-05 but met and married here, in Germantown, Philadelphia (when there were still Germans there . . .  :whatever:)

On my mom's side: my grandmother's family were Scottish and my granddad's family were Quakers from England.  Both of those original ancestors emigrated here sometime in the first half of the 1800s.

English, Scots, Dutch, Alsatian and Norman French, and supposedly some (unproven) Irish.

Closest we get to AmerIndian is the boy who was kidnapped by some at the age of 13, held until 15, freed by the Continental Army, promptly joined and served as a Private, and later served as a Captain during the War of 1912.

Can only trace the family name back to 1860's to one Moses Gardner. No idea where he came from. Moms side, to Concord, pre-revolution, an indentured servant.

We're Celts and we don't tan, we sizzle. Irish and Scottish.
Dad is an accomplished genealogist and has traced a couple of lines back through Germany and one into Hungary as far back as the 900's. Most people can't find records going any further back than the mid 1800's because before that the only people records were kept on were nobility and clergy. We know who a lot of our ancestors were going back to the usual mid 1800's and have daguerreotypes, tintypes or photographs of most of them. Am also related somehow, would have to ask dad, to both main characters depicted in the movie Brave heart, William Wallace and Edward I.
Amanda Blake, who played "Miss Kitty" in Gunsmoke was my mom's cousin. Her Great Uncle, Johnny Hayes won the gold medal in the men's marathon at the London Olympics in 1908. I myself am quite famous down at my local watering hole.

Swedish and English, but for some reason I tan easily in the summer.

Bastard!!!!  ;)

My mother, brothers and sisters all tan walking across the street.  I (like my dad) burn, then burn, then burn some more.    I have renounced my Canadian heritage because of this.

Yes I am bitter.
